Brandon Smith, Clay Wright (Back, Orem West 14-year-old win city tournament Orem's 14-year-old All-Stars divided into four teams to play a round robin tournament to determine deter-mine city All-Star champions. Two teams were chosen from the West League and two teams were chosen from the East League, with each team coached by the first or second place coach. The tournament was won by the West side team coached by Jeff Gillespie, head coach, Rod Burgi, John Edwards, and Cal Jones. The team won the tournament by defeating all three other teams, thus foregoing any need for playoff play-off games. Game one against an East team saw Gillespie's West team win 14-1. 14-1. Pitching for the West were Jeremy Gillespie (two innings), Clay Wright (two innings), and Lance Burgi (one inning). 4 Game two against the other East team was a tough game to the end, with the West winning 6-0. Geoff Hill pitched four innings, allowing al-lowing only one walk and one hit. Game three for the championship champion-ship had the two unbeaten West teams playing for top team in the city. Gillespie pitched all five innings in-nings in the 10-0 victory. Every one of the team members contributed, with great hitting and defense. They will now travel to Burnsville, Minnesota, where they will compete with other teams from across the nation August 5-12. The Orem Buzz All-Star team dominated all of the teams they played last week in the State AAU Tournament that was held in Salt Lake City. The team beat Riverton 12-10, Sandy Giants 10-6, Murray I s Orem Youth Baseball team Florida bound From the first pitch to the last strike of the American Athletic Tournament hosted in Kearns, Oram's 14-year-old boys had their sights set on the Coca Beach, Eorida, national tournament. The coaching of Stan Adams, Jay Sundberg, and Jeff Gillespie led the Utah Buzz to qualify as silver medalists. The team leaves Thursday, August 3, for a week of baseball played on Florida diamonds. The young men were selected for their baseball performances perfor-mances this season and represent some of the great athletic talent in the city of Orem. The team expresses expres-ses gratitude for the generous financial contributions and support sup-port with their fundraisers. Orem High volleyball tryouts set Tryouts for Orem High volleyball vol-leyball varsity and junior varsity will be held August 14-18, from 8-11 a.m. and 2-5 p.m. at the school.
