Show Orem-Geneva Times Wednesday. March 16. 1994 Page 11 Barber Bros, car dealers family-oriented family-oriented ad wins national award Brothers Sam, Chuck, Fred and John Barber were raised with the strong sense of values, typical in an Italian family. So when they introduced a new advertising ad-vertising campaign last year, they decided to use their own family as the theme to promote their Woods Cross, Orem and Spanish Fork dealerships. The ad features photos of the brothers as kids, their parents and their family's multi-generation love affair with automobiles. Narration was by the brothers themselves. Their unusually personal per-sonal approach has not gone unnoticed. un-noticed. At the National Automobile Dealers Association Convention in San Francisco in January, the Barber Bros. "Strength of Family" Fami-ly" TV ad received the award for best local dealer ad in the top 75 media markets. Their simple honest message beat out much more expensive and flashy ads in the competition. 'We wanted our customers to get to know us," says Chuck Barber Bar-ber of the Orem dealership. "We think of our customers as part of our extended family. We want to service them over the long haul, not just have them buy a car and drive away forever." The ads were created, produced and directed by the Barber Bros, advertising agency, Crowell and Associates Advertising Advertis-ing & Marketing. Utah County Sheriff's Department to present awards The Utah County Sheriffs Department Annual Awards Ceremony will be held tonight, March 16, 1994, at 7:00 p.m. in the rotunda of the Historic Utah County Courthouse in Provo. The awards ceremony will culminate with the LeGrand J. Baker and Beth W. Baker Exemplary Service Award. Chamber sponsors sales and advertising workshop Effective sales and advertising advertis-ing on a limited budget is the topic of a seminar sponsored by the ProvoOrem Chamber of Commerce tonight from 7-9 p.m. in Room 3 19 of the Historic County Coun-ty Courthouse in downtown Provo. Leon Przybyla of the consulting consult-ing firm Reliant Sales will provide pro-vide practical tips on basic sales organization and direction on how to get customers buying your product. "Most innovative ideas have great potential, but lie dormant because one does not know how to get them to market," said Przybyla. He added that what happens in a business depends on whether there are sales at a fair profit margin. His main focus is to teach and advise individuals on how to spend as little time and money as possible on marketing and to emphasize selling until capital is available to afford detailed marketing. "We are thrilled to have someone of Przybyla's caliber to advise local businesses on a topic so vital to all," commented Steve Densley, president of the Chamber. Cham-ber. Przybyla has 25 years of experience ex-perience as a salesman, business owner, and entrepreneur. He has successfully started, operated, 4nd managed five different businesses busi-nesses and holds stock and is a board member of two others. He has traveled extensively and owns an importexport business. Przybyla is a professional engineer en-gineer and has designed and taught several training courses. This is the third of five workshops open to the public sponsored by the Chamber throughout the month of March. For more information, call 379-2555. o7 V f s- ' v. . Illegally places signs will be removed, warns UDOT Spring is here and with it comes campaigning, family parties, par-ties, and garage sales, so before you get started putting up you signs, you'd better be certain that they are placed legally. Posting signs on state highway high-way signs or in the state right of way is illegal, warns the Utah Department of Transportation. Under Utah code, signs cannot be placed on utility poles, fences, trees or street signs in the right of way. The signs are not only an eyesore, they can be a safety hazard, too. Illegally placed signs can cut down visibility and obstruct important regulatory signs. The problem isn't just with campaign signs. Improperly placed signs also include special event announcements, directions to parties and, of course, garage sales. UDOT policy is to remove and destroy illegally placed sings. The time and money spent removing signs is considerable and could be put to better use. If you have any questions about placing your signs, contact the Utah Department of Transportation's encroachments office. They'll be happy to help you.
