The contest wasn't easy for either team. Lead changes were the norm throughout the contest but key layups by Jamie Jeffords helped secure the win in the final minute of play. Thursday's quarterfinal contest con-test against Viewmont started a close game but ended with a 76-64 loss, allegations of poor officiating and hard feelings. Mountain View stayed with the Vikings in the first quarter and trailed 38-34 at the half. Viewmont kept up the pressure in the third and finally shook the Bruins loose with 15-22 fourth quarter scoring for the 76-64 win. .While Viewmont advanced to the semifinals, it wasn't without a raised eyebrow. In the game Mountain View made 60 field goal attempts but stepped to the line a mere 16 times. Viewmont, however, put up 39 tries and walked to the line 42 times. Almost Al-most miraculously, Viewmont managed to avoid the penalty in three of four quarters. The tempo was fast paced in theopeningminutesbutMoun-tain theopeningminutesbutMoun-tain View opened a 24-20 first quarter lead. In the second, Mountain View exploded while Layton faltered. Capitalizing on turnovers and missed rebounds, the Bruins went on a 25-14 scoring scor-ing run in the third to ice the eventual 87-74 win. Friday's win set up yet another rematch against the Alta Hawks. This season, Mountain View has consistently struggled against Alta. First it was a controversial, con-troversial, last second call underneath under-neath the hoop that gave Alta a home court win. Then, at Mountain Moun-tain View, the Bruins fell short of rebounds down the stretch and Alta walked away with another victory. Saturday, the action was no less intense. The focus was equally equal-ly high. But the Alta hex proved too difficult to shake and the Hawks sent the Bruins home with a two point, 68-66 loss. Mountain View led by one, 14-13 14-13 at the end of the first but Alta rallied to a 38-35 halftime lead. The Bruins fought back and regained a 50-48 lead by the end of the third but Alta outscored the Bruins in the fourth for the win. "We told to the kids to be loose but stay focused," said Assistant Coach Rob Cuff, "and they've managed to do that."
