Show WordPerfect Corp. donates surplus computer hardware to school districts WordPerfect Corporation today announced the donation of approximately 500 surplus computers com-puters to Alpine, Provo and Nebo School Districts, the donation also included 25 Sanyo Icon subsystems sub-systems that can be used by the districts as file servers. "WordPerfect Corporation wants to support the local school districts in their effort to provide quality education," said David Brower, K-12 education sales and marketing director, WordPerfect Corporation. "Computers are becoming be-coming an essential element in the education process so we think this donation will be of considerable benefit to students in the area." WordPerfect Corporation organized or-ganized a community-wide volunteer volun-teer effort involving employees from WordPerfect Corporation, Alpine School District, Brigham Young University, Mid-State Computers, Computer Show and SoftSolutions Technology Corporation Cor-poration to help prepare the components com-ponents for use. Volunteers tested, repaired where necessary and assembled 75 of the computers. com-puters. District personnel are now sorting and assembling the remaining hardware before making it available for final distribution dis-tribution to the schools. Mark Urish, property coordinator coor-dinator at WordPerfect Corporation, Corpora-tion, estimates that about 425 more systems can be complied from the components given to the districts. 'We have also agreed to .donate some office furniture including in-cluding monitor stands, audiovisual cabinets and podiums," said Urish. Computer equipment that is incompatible with district sys tems or in disrepair will be used in one of three ways: as spare parts for repairing and upgrading computers the districts already own; as fund-raisers in district surplus sales; and, in Alpine School District, as instructional equipment in a computer repair class taught at Orem High School. 'We want to provide every student stu-dent with the opportunity to be come computer literate," said MarJean Sawyer, director, Alpine Al-pine School District Foundation. 'With help from companies like WordPerfect Corporation, we are progressing toward that goal." l 1 The first wedding in the White House was that of Dolley Madison's sister, Mrs. Lucy Payne Washington, who married mar-ried Supreme Court Justice Thomas Todd in 1812. ru Jl W(f) GREG SOTER Orem resident listed in Who's Who in America The publishers of Who's Who in America recently announced that N.
