Jefford, Chapel, Gali rally Bruins rums nip T-Binls, 14-11 Orem - Friday night Mountain Moun-tain View's All American Guard Setema Gali chipped in a pair of big plays and Quarterback Jamie Jefford tossed a 60 yard touchdown touch-down pass in the final minutes to clinch a 14-11 victory over the T-Birds of Timpview. "I thought they outplayed us in the first half," said Head Coach Bryce Monsen of the contest, "the second half was just an ugly, defensive football game." It was the kind of game most of the Bruin capacity crowd was probably wishing they'd left early - then would have regretted after hearing of the come from behind victory. With four minutes left in the first quarter, Mountain View opened the door to a Timpview score when Bruin quarterback Kody Floyd fumbled and the ensuing en-suing scramble led to a safety and 2-0 lead for Timpview. The Bruins regrouped, but either the Timpview defense or Bruin penalties kept Mountain View out of the end zone. Even when Mountain View seemed in control, things fell apart. A bad snap deep in Mountain View territory ter-ritory gave Timpview their second score of the night and an 8-0 lead with 3:53 remaining in the first half. With time running out, on second and ten from the Bruin 20, quarterback Jamie Jefford took the snap and carried for 48 yards to the Timpview 33. Senior Josh Roberts put the Bruins on the scoreboard and narrowed Timpview's lead to two when he scored on the next carry to end the half. For Mountain View, the third quarter began much like the first. A throw by Jefford called back by a clipping call. Two incomplete passes. A run to overturned by an offside penalty. A punt answered with a seven play drive and field goal that widened the 11-6 gap for Timpview. In the fourth quarter the game turned to a defensive battle. With 1:35 left and Timpview's quarterback under pressure, he unloaded the ball and Gali intercepted inter-cepted for Mountain View. As the clocked ticked down, Jefford took the snap and launched the winning pass, toward Senior Nate Chapel. Timpview struggled to get back in the game but on the second play of the series, Gali came up with a key sack that took the wind - and the victory - out of the T-bird sails. "Tonight we were lucky," said Monsen, "it was a crazy game." He also gave credit to the Bruin defense. "Gali is as a good a football foot-ball player as there is in the State," he added.
