Show WEEKLY Orem-Geneva Times - TIMES TV WEEKLY Wednesday, September 26, 1990 Fred Meyer receipts help buy computers for schools Fred Meyer, Inc. is back for the 1990-91 school year with a reprise of its highly popular program pro-gram from last year that gives : free Apple computers, printers, and software to primary and secondary schools in exchange for cash register receipts. For the next six months, Fred Meyer will participate in a nationwide nation-wide program called "Apples for the Students," to call attention to the growing need for more computers com-puters in primary and secondary schools. Nationally, the program includes in-cludes Apple Computer, Inc. and approximately 3,600 stores in 43 retail chains covering all 50 states. In the two years since this partnership partner-ship program began, more than $66 million worth of computer - equipment and software have been acquired by more than 50,000 I schools in exchange for receipts. The program will last until March 10, 1991. Schools encourage parents, students, and friends to shop at Fred Meyer stores and save their cash register receipts, which then are redeemed by Fred Meyer for computers, printers, and software. World of Dance showcases BYU performers it From precision marching to exuberant folk dancing and elegant ballroom interpretations, "World of Dance" will showcase the best in dance at Brigham Young University Sept. 26-29. Tickets for the performances, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center, are available at the BYU Music Ticket Office, 378-7444. "The program is the only time all of our dance groups appear together in a single performance," explained technical director Gary Hopkinson. "If s designed to be a showcase for the universits dance touring programs, and is the very best work we have. BYU dance fans will see some veteran performers in the ensembles en-sembles as well as some fresh new faces, the result of rigorous dance auditions in all areas earlier this month. ' . Opening the program will be the Cougarettes, who will perform per-form to the music "Higher Road" by BYU alumnus Sam Cardon, choreographed by Lisa Arbon. The Dancers' Company will then borrow a production number from their highly successful spring program, "African Nightfall, an invocation of lush African themes and rhythms, with music by Rick Chitwood and choreography by Caroline Prohosky. Fresh from a six-week tour of Eastern Canada and the Northeast North-east U.S., the International Folk Dance Ensemble will display the music and dance of Yugoslavia, with authentic choreography by Zeh'ko Jergan. The BYU Theatre Ballet will offer some contrasting interpretations, inter-pretations, beginning with Mark Williams' "Phantasie," a tongue-in-cheek look at traditional ballet forms. The Ballroom Dance Company Com-pany will try to capture some of the excitement of its successful South Pacific tour with widely viewed performances in Australia and New Zealand. Rounding out the evening will be the BYU Children's Dance Company, with excerpts from "Rain Makes Applesauce," a fanciful fan-ciful dance work based on the award-winning children's novel by Gallein Schemer. "I Wear My Shoes Inside Out" features work with children 10-11 years old, and "My Teddy Bear Sings Out Loud at Night" includes 8-9 year olds.
