Sundance theater opens June 10 The Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC-North Utah County) honored Utah state winners of the Art Design contest 1987-88 sponsored by the National Association of Retarded Citzens. Two students at Lakeridge Jr. High received special awards on May 27. Russ Hansen placed first in the Christmas card category and Michelle Raynes placed second in the Calendar category. Ann Clyde, president presi-dent of ARC-North presented the awards in behalf of the national organization. The first place winner in the calendar category is also a Utah County student, Melissa Johnson, at Lehi Jr. High. She was honored at an assembly June 1. Each of the first place winners received a trophy. Their art work will now be considered as designs to use on the ARC Christmas cards and 1989 calendar. Their work also may be displayed in a special exhibit at the national ARC convention. "Robber "Rob-ber Bridegroom" will play in conjunction conjunc-tion with the season's second snow, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." "Robber Bridegroom" weaves the tall tale of Jamie Lockhart, the robber of the woods, who falls in love with Rosamund, the beautiful daughter of a rich plantation owner on the Natchez Trace. The toe-tapping musical is filled with blue grass music, country fiddling and vigorous dancing. The tongue-in-cheek fantasy blends love and make-believe much the same as the popular movie "Princess Bride." Mark Gollaher returns to Sundance Sun-dance to play Jamie Lockhart, the Robber Bridegroom. Mark has been seen as Benjamin in "Seven Brides . for Seven Brothers," Lancelot in "Camelot," and Tinman in "The Wizard of Oz." Mary Wilson plays Rosamund, the beautiful heroine. Mary has appeared in "Singing in the Rain," and "Death of a Salesman" at Pioneer Theatre Company. Star Hayner Roman will play Salome, the crazy stepmother. Star has delighted Sundance audiences with her portrayals of Miss Hannigan in "Annie," the Wicked Witch of the West in "Wizard of Oz," and Mama Rose in "Gypsy." She was most recently seen as Nurse Preen in the Orem Community Theatre's production produc-tion of "The Man Who Came to Dinner." Din-ner." Kent Burrell will play the rich plantation owner, Clement Musgrove. Kent was last featured at Sundance "Porter Rockwell Returns" at Pleasant Grove High y Porter -Rockwell Returns," D. Anderson's one-man play on - the legendary western lawman, gun-fighter, gun-fighter, tracker, scout and bodyguard to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, will be performed in the Pleasant Grove High School auditorium on Fri- day, June 10, 1988. Anderson began researching Porter Rockwell in 1985 in connection with his graduate studies in LDS History at Brigham Young University. Universi-ty. With the help of LDS and western America history experts, Anderson wrote a one-man play on Rockwell. The play was reviewed for authenticity authentici-ty by Dr. Douglas Alder, past-president past-president of the Utah Historical Association. The show begins with an ominous jangling of spurs, and the sight of a bearded, long-haired man with a chest like a barrel For the next 90 minutes, the audience experiences a man straight out of the western frontier. fron-tier. Anderson portrays Rockwell during dur-ing the Utah War, tracking rustlers, having shoot-outs with outlaws, as well as during the terrifying years in Missouri, where Rockwell got his name: "Destroying Angel." Anderson says of his play, "I want to portray Rockwell just as he was-no better, no worse. I want to put as Lazur Wolf in "Fiddler on the Roof." Other cast members include Ron Jewett, Kelly Kuhnen-Shepardson, Betsy Nagel, Helen Nichols, Brent Schneider, and Russell Simmons. "Robber Bridegroom" is directed and choreographed by Jayne Luke, Artistic Director of Sundance; musical director is, Chip Prince; costume designer is Janet Swenson; and lighting designer is Brent Lefavor. "Robber Bridegroom" opens June 10 and runs Monday through Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m. through June 24. Saturday, June 25, is the opening performance of "The Unsinkable Un-sinkable Molly Brown." Shows will alternate nightly through September 5 with "Robber Bridegroom" playing on even calendar dates and "The Unsinkable Un-sinkable Molly Brown" playing on odd calendar dates. Ticket prices range from $5.50 to $7.50. Sundance recommends that patrons dress warmly and bring a blanket. Reservations should be made in advance for all performances.
