"We were accredited by JCAH, which certifies both psychiatric and medicalsurgical hospitals, for a three-year period which is exceptional excep-tional considering the short time we have been open in these communities," com-munities," Allgaier said. "If a hospital doesn't do well in the accreditation ac-creditation process, officials have the option of returning every year for a review." Because of the JCAH certification, cer-tification, Charter Canyon Hospital will be eligible for federal assistance with Medicare patients, according to Allgaier. Also, insurance companies prefer to work with hospitals that are certified. The examination , included an analysis of record keeping, nursing care, hospital policies and procedures, interviews with hospital officials and a visit from JCAH team members. All standards used by JCAH are obtained ob-tained from organizations such as the American Medical Associaiton and other national medical groups, in an effort to standardize patient care.
