Show Plans Underway For rem gaby Contest As part of the Orem Summer Family Festival, the Baby Contest will be held Friday, June 20. It is scheduled in the multipurpose room at the Scera Park School, 450 S. 400 E., Orem. Chairman of the 1980 contest is Donna Richards, representing the Orem Boosters, sponsors of the Summer Festival. Fes-tival. She has released the following rules for those interested in entering their babies in the contest: All contestants and their parents must be residents of Orem. All contestants must be pre-registered. pre-registered. Registration forms are available in the Orem-Geneva Times and will appear in the paper May 29, June 5, and June 12. Registration forms are also available at the reception desk at the Orem City Center. Necessary information must include the name of the baby, the names and addresses of the parents, age and sex of the baby. The information may also be sent on a card. Postmarked deadline for the registration regis-tration forms is Monday, June 16. They must be mailed to the Orem Boosters, Inc., Attn: Donna Richards, P.O. Box 244, Orem, Utah 84057. Judging will take place in the multipurpose multi-purpose room at the Scera Park School on Friday, June 20. Babies 13 to 23 months of age will be judged at 11 a.m. Babies 5 to 12 months of age will be judged at 1 p.m. Those younger than five months or older than 24 months (2 years) are not eligible to enter the contest. Box 244 Orem, Utah 84057 DEADLINE Postmarked June 16, 1980 Judging Will Be June 20, 1980 13 months-23 months 11:00 a.m. 5 months-12 months 1:00 p.m. Summer Festival Plans Shaping Up The Orem Boosters, Inc., have named co-chairmen co-chairmen to guide the annual festival scheduled for June and plans are shaping up for 1980. This makes more than a quarter quar-ter of a century of the summer event in Orem. The executive officers and boards of directors of the sponsoring group have named Ernie Summers, Sum-mers, vice president of the Boosters, and Lon Roberts, a member of the board, to share responsibilities respon-sibilities for the yearly celebration. Winston M. Crawford is president of the group and Gareth Seastrand represents the Orem City Council. The dates of the festival fes-tival will be June 13 to June 21. The eight days of activities will be launched with the opening performance of "Music Man" on the 13th and will close with the final night of the Miss Utah Pageant on the 21st. The climax will be the traditional fireworks fire-works display after the pageant. In between there will be scheduled a wide variety of events. Plans are now being completed for a Saturday morning parade featuring all of the contestants from around the state who will be here for the Miss Utah Pageant preliminaries, as well as marching units and floats. Also on the calendar of events are the baby contest, dog show, a horseshoe horse-shoe pitching contest, golf tourney, swim and track meets, and park activities along with baseball and Softball tournaments. A special band concert is on the list of events for this year. The Lions club will be on hand for their traditional tra-ditional breakfast preceding pre-ceding and following the parade on June 21. Final arrangements are now being made for a bazaar to be held at the City Center immediately following fol-lowing the parade on Saturday morning. Two men from the ro-.deo ro-.deo team of Utah Technical Tech-nical College at Provo-Orem Provo-Orem have qualified for the June national competition compe-tition in Bozeman, Mon., of the National Intercol-legiat Intercol-legiat Rodeo Association. The Duance France of Hyrum, this year's champion cham-pion in bareback bronc riding of the Rocky Mountain Moun-tain Region of the NIRA, and Hal Cornia of Randolph, Ran-dolph, second place this year in saddle bronc riding rid-ing of the Rocky Mountain Moun-tain Region. France led the entire Rocky Mountain Region in bareback bronc riding with a 412 point total for five meets. Cornia amassed a 287 point total in saddle bronc riding which put him in second place next to Shane Pres-cott Pres-cott of Weber state who came up with a whopping 500. Cornia was Utah State high school saddle bronc champion in 1979. The two Utah Tech riders rid-ers will enter the nationals nation-als scheduled at Bozeman, June 16 through 21. They will be accompanied by Russell Black and Steve Trane, both drafting instructors in-structors at Utah Tech who double as rodeo coaches. They are Mario Bussio, Wesley Johansen and E.N. Mikkelson. Bussio, a graduate of the Old Lincoln High in Orem, has a B.S. in agricultural agri-cultural education, and a Master of Science degree from BYU in vocational and industrial education with a minor in educational educa-tional administration. He has taught in Alpine School district since 1950 and has been a member of many professional organizations or-ganizations including American Vocational Association, As-sociation, Utah Vocational Association, and the Alpine Al-pine Education Association. Associa-tion. Bussio is the recipient of several local and state honors: Kiwanis International Inter-national Distinguished Service Award (1960); Outstanding Vocational Agriculture Teacher Award (1973); Agribusiness Agribusi-ness Career Exploration Award (1974); Teacher of Teachers Award (1976); Outstanding Service Award (1980). Officiator over high school basketball and football games for over twenty years, Bussio is married to the former Melba Smith of Cedar City. They have three children and seven grandchildren. grand-children. Johansen began teaching at Richfield High in 1940 and later stopped his teaching career to serve as Sergeant in the field artillery of the Armed Services in World War II. He returned as an educator at North Sanpete San-pete High and taught there for 20 years. For the last 17 years he has been at Orem High. Johansen is married to the former Joyce Grous of Moroni. They have seven children and 16 grandchildren. The Johansens will live part-time part-time in Mt. Pleasant to farm and raise cattle. "Flash" Mikkelson has been in distinguished service at both Lincoln High and Orem High for the last 25 years. He then became principal of North Sanpete High School in Mt. Pleasant. Mikkelson started teaching and coaching in Alpine School District in 1955 at Lincoln High School for one year before coming to Orem High where he has spent the last twenty-four years as a Biological Science teacher tea-cher and coach of basketball, basket-ball, sophomore football, tennis, and swimming. He is presently golf coach and athletic director at Orem High School.
