Mrs. Clark is relatively new , in the world of art. She is a native California? and began painting- while attending Sacramento Sacra-mento State College. In 1973, she moved with her husband and four children to Bangkok, Thailand where she studied for two years under the tutorage of a popular Thai artist, Kao (Sommai) Saetang. Much of her subject matter and style reflect re-flect her love of the Orient. and Trust in Provo, during regular banking hours. Upon leaving Bangkok, she lived in Hawaii for two years; while there she furthered herart education at the Universtiy of Hawaii. Since moving with her family to Provo in 1976, she has continued her interest and study of art and is a member of the Art Section of the Women's Council, Cascade PTA Sponsors "Back To School Might Westmere Schedules "Bsck to School" llight For Parents West more Elementary School will hold its "Back-to-School Night" and nature show for all parents of Westmore students tonight to-night at 6:30 p.m. PTA officers encourage all parents to attend and become familiar with their children's 1977-78 school curriculum and activities. PTA members atCascadeEle-mentary atCascadeEle-mentary School are preparing for their annual "Back to School Night," this evening at 7 p.m., where Principal Penrod Glazier and PTA officers will greet parents par-ents and conduct business for the upcoming year. From 7:00 until 7:20 p.m. parents are asked to meet in the school auditorium, following which parents will meet with individual teachers from 7:30 until 8:05, where they will discuss dis-cuss procedures and curriculum for the year. After a 15 minute recess with refreshments, parents having a second child at Cascade will meet with that teacher from 8:25 until 9:00 p.m. Parents having more than two children will have to visit rooms separately. separ-ately. Lckeridgs Ledger Many new and exciting things have happened the past two weeks, to Lakeridge Jr. High School students. Making lots of new friends, bumping into old friends, getting alot of new and different classes, etc. Among the new faces this year are some great new teachers. They are: Mrs. Gessell, Miss Gleason, Mrs, Johnson, Mr. Stratton, and Miss Schwa-bedissen. Schwa-bedissen. We welcome them to Lakeridge! Our new student council met for the first time and many new and exciting activities were planned plan-ned for the coming year. The new student council members mem-bers are: Mike Schlappi, student-body student-body president; Roger Dayton, studentbody vice president; Wendy Castle, studentbody secretary; sec-retary; Scott Birrell, ninth grade president; Phil Broderick, ninth grade vice president; RaLyn Richards, ninth grade secretary; Doug Jensen and Jim Hansen, stage managers; Annette Nelson, program chairman; Betsy Cryer, radio reporter; and Debbie Cowan, news reporter. With an enthusiastic group like this we're bound to have a super year! News Reporter Debbie Cowan Bible Study Cbss To begin Sept. 1 5 The interdenominational Utah Bible Study, which began in Provo eight years ago, has expanded to other states and is now named Explorer's Bible Study. Classes will begin Thursday morning, September 15. Weekly meetings will be at the Provo Community Church, 175 North University Avenue, from 9:30 until 11:15 a.m. No tuition is charged for Explorer's Ex-plorer's Bible Study which is open to women of all faiths. The curriculum is planned by Mrs. T.M. Constance, a Christian Education Edu-cation graduate of Nyack College Nyack, New York, who with her, husband owns and manages the Intermountain Book Store in Salt Lake City. "The emphasis of Explorer's Bible Study is on what the Bible says and what it means to us today," Mrs. Constance said. The later history of Israel, from the time of the Judges, wil be the subject of this year's study. Nursery care and a preschool pre-school program coordinated with the adult study is provided for children of class members. "It is exciting to see the relevance re-levance of the Bible to modern problems," Mrs. Constance said. "Explorer's Bible Study comprising individual preparation prepara-tion at home, small group discussion, dis-cussion, weekly lectures and: printed notes and questions on each lesson, is an exciting learning learn-ing experience." All interested women are cordially invited to attend the beginning class Thursday, September Sept-ember 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the Provo Community Church. Orem Elementary School PTA will sponsor a "Back to School Night" tonight, September 8, at 6:30 p.m., where parents may meet teachers and visit school facilities. A special feature of the evening will be the "Happy Harvest Contest" Con-test" where students from each grade will submit homegrown Orem UDOT Worker flsmed Director Two administrative changes, including anewDistrictDirector for District 4, headquartered in Price, and a new Engineer for Location and Environmental Studies, Stu-dies, were announced by the Utah Department of Transportation. The new assignments are effective effec-tive October 1. Sterling C. Davis, current UDOT Engineer for Location and Environmental Studies, will become be-come District 4 Director, Davis will fill the district director slot, replacing James L. Deaton, who was recently named director in District 1, headquartered in Ogden. C. Gene Sturzenegger, current District 5 Preconstruction Engineer, En-gineer, located in Cedar City, will replace Davis as Engineer for Location and Environmental Studies. A replacementforStur-zenegger replacementforStur-zenegger will not be named at this time. Davis has been with the Department De-partment full-time since 1968. Since then he has been a design engineer, project design engineer and preconstruction engineer in District 6, Orem. Davis was named Engineer for Location and Environmental Studies in September of 1973. - Davis has a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University Uni-versity of Utah and a master's degree in engineering administration, admini-stration, also from the U. He and his wife have six children. Sturzenegger joined the Department De-partment in October of 1970 as a design engineer. He then became be-came a project design engineer and also devoted two years on special assignment to prepare the Department's Action Plan, a document which outlines the procedures to be followed in the development of highway projects. In December of 1973, Sturzenegger Sturzeneg-ger was named District 5 reconstruction re-construction Engineer. Sturzenegger has an associate degree in engineering fromDixie Junior College and a B.S. degree in civil engineering from Utah State University. He also has a master's degree in engineering engineer-ing administration from the University Uni-versity of Utah. Sturzenegger and his wife have three children. flowers and vegetables for display dis-play in each classroom. A first place prize will be awarded for each grade level. The PTA, in an opening assembly assem-bly at G:30 p.m. will introduce new officers, explain the program pro-gram at Orem Elementary, and discuss a new first and second grade reading program with all parents in attendance. Principal Maag encourages every parent to participate in this opening PTA activity. Training School Religious Program Recognized An article detailing the religious religi-ous program for the mentally retarded population at Utah State Training School appeared this week in Mental Retardation magazine. The publication is a professional journal published by the American Association on Mental Deficiency and is distributed dis-tributed throughout the United States and in many Canadian provinces. The article, "Fulfilling the Religious Needs of the Retarded," Re-tarded," was written by Betty G. Spencer, director of information informa-tion services at the training school. Sunday School, worship services ser-vices and auxiliary programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the LDSSemi nary program and the Catholic lay program were included as ithey relate to the religious experience ex-perience of the residents of the training school.
