Show P"1 I ports ran uommenas Orem-Provo Students OnSportsmanshipConduct We live in an era where athletic ath-letic competition between High Schools has been increasingly marked by exhibitions of unsportsfiiaii-like conduct on the part of athletes, general rudeness and the chanting of obscenities and vulgarisms by studentbodies, and, as an incident to such competition, com-petition, mindless violence and vandalism in parking lots and school buildings. This has resulted in School Fun W ith Photography By BOBBY ALLEN .M AMI m PICTURES TKIY f.'IVER CROW U? No matter how old your baby is, three months or three years, you've probably already heard yourself saying, "We should have got a picture of that." And all too often you don't. The months and years slip by faster than we realize, and the first thing you know those wonderful childhood moments are gone, memories that become harder to recapture as time goes buy unless you captured them permanently on film. The way to have those cherished pictures of the big moments and the unexpected delights that come along, is to have a camera ready at all times, loaded with film. Be ready anytime baby takes on something new, whether it's learning to walk or meeting the new puppy. Ybu don't have to worry about using a complicated camera either. Many of the cameras available today give you great results by just pointing the camera and pushing the button. The new Kodak Pocket Instamatic cameras give you fine pictures with a minimum of effort.. .and they are so small you can keep them in your purse or pocket. You'lL always be ready for that onee-in-a-lifetime shot. "ASK AN EXPERT" COME IN AND StE US Prove PHOTO SliPPLY 24 N. Univ. Ave. 373-4440 Boards and Administrators having games played in the afternoons, after-noons, games played without any spectators at all, or even, in apprehension and disgust, having athletic competition stopped altogether al-together between certain schools. In marked contrast to this, the long saga of athletic competition com-petition between Orem High School and Provo High School-two School-two big schools only a scant three miles apart-is a hearten ing and hopeful example of what a rivalry between two schools should be. The competition between them has been long and heated and fiercely contested (in the last three years, of the five basketball basket-ball games played to date, four of the five games were one-point one-point games), yet no one will ever see athletic competition conducted on a higher level of individual conduct and team con duct than when these two schools play each other. They don't have to play in the afternoon, and they don't have to play without spectators, nor have their games canceled. Indeed, just the opposite is true! As a matter of fact, when they play each other, neither school has room to accomodate the enthusiastic en-thusiastic throngs of proud and partisan fans that come out to see and support them and they must rent the vast facilities of Brigham Young University when they play. Also, without any qualms at all they play at night when the general public -thoroughly charmed by the spectacle spec-tacle of exuberant students carrying-off their colorful game activities with civility and good taste - can attend the games. Two years ago when Provo won the first basketball game between be-tween the two 71-70, and Orem the second game by a score of 81-80, they played before the largest crowds to ever see regular reg-ular high school league games, in the history of the State of Utah! The attendance was 8,-500 8,-500 at the first game and 9,300 at the second. Except for BYU, these are larger crowds than any of the colleges in the State can draw for their home games! There are also some other aspects of the relationship between Orem and Provo High Schools that are unique. There is no one that they would rather defeat than each other, but when one of them is playing some other team, or tournament game, the Student Council and Cheerleaders Cheer-leaders from Orem call and participate par-ticipate in the Provo Pep Assembly As-sembly to give them support and wish them well, and when Orem is involved in such a game, the Student Council and Cheerleaders Cheer-leaders from Provo do the same., and you always see Orem students stu-dents mingled with Provo students stu-dents when Provo is playing, and Provo students mingled with Orem students when Orem is playing in play-off or tournament tourna-ment games. The stuffed Bulldog in the Provo Trophy case is a gift from the Orem Student Council as a token of their friendship and respect for Provo, and likewise, like-wise, the stuffed Tiger in the Orem Trophy case is a gift from the Provo Student Counicl expressing the same, from them. It is a great credit to the students stu-dents and faculties of these two outstanding schools, and to the l&e limit 1h Comes From Rohbock's Sons' Floral Flowers For All Occasions ElohboctVs Sons' Floral 1042 South State - Orem 225-3100. WASHINGTON - Congressman Gunn McKaay has announced the nomination of Thomas S.Despain of Orem for appointment to the United States Naval Academy. Mr. Despain is among 69 McKay nominations from the First Congressional Con-gressional District who will vie for positions in the classes entering enter-ing the academies in the fall of 1973. Mr. Despain is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donley L. Despain Des-pain and is a student at Orem High School. "The selection of nominees was based on a combination of the students' grades, their overall over-all activities in high school and their scores on the ACTorCEEB examinations," McKay said. Those nominated will be required re-quired to take individual entrance examinations administered by the academies. Final appointments will be made on the basis of the academy examination results, the candidates' academic and extracurricular extra-curricular records in secondary school and their potential as career officers in the armed services.
