Show Orem-Geneva Times Thursday, April 27, 1967 JC Loan Chest Benefits Many Home Patients Perhaps you are unaware of the Loan Chest begun many years ago by the Orera Jaycee Wives and how it can benefit you and your family. The following is a brief history of the project as outlined by Mrs. Gerald Nielson, chairman chair-man of the Chest for this year. The Loan Chest is a collection collec-tion of linens, bedding and articles ar-ticles such as crutches, wheelchairs, wheel-chairs, etc. for the sick-at-home patients. The purpose of the Chest is for Orem residents to be able to borrow from it without charge a great boon when family finances fi-nances are unstable in time of sickness. The project was started in 1946 with Mrs. Glen Healey as chairman. chair-man. The Wives at that time sponsored spon-sored a card party in the old Lincoln High School gymnasium to raise the initial money to launch the project. The Chest started out with a full layette of baby clothes, several sev-eral sheets, and two beds. Wes Kofford, an active Jaycee member mem-ber at that time, built the cabinets cab-inets in which the linens and bedding are stored. Since then, many clubs and people have donated do-nated various items to the Loan Chest. The Chest is now located in back of the Orera City Library with the city nurse in charge of the actual loaning of the items.
