I sometimes thinks it helps to know that others have pro-Vsms. pro-Vsms. And there are times when I think the only thing can be done for people, really if to listen to their troubles. The trouble with this is, that no one wants to listen to other ipeople's troubles. When they're listening to other people's troubles they have no chance to tell their own! The one thing that has brought on Cm craze for the psychiatrist's psychiat-rist's couch is the certain knowledge that here one will find someone to listen to one's troubles. EARLY Official Inspection Station ly the Catholic Church has a very great thing in the private confession. People can go and unburden themselves. It's a wonderfully therapeutic thing. Where was I? Oh, yes. My problems. Well yesterday, having a strong yen for some lima beans cooked with ham or salt pork, and having no ham but having some salt pork, carefully care-fully wrapped and In the refrigerator, re-frigerator, I sorted, carefully and put some to cook. Comes time for them to be getting done, I tasted to see and oh, murder! If those beans weren't awful! I got rid of my mouthful mouth-ful and sat down to ' think. I decided that the salt pork had become rancid. There just was no other explanation for such a taste. Now, I didn't think that salt pork, refrigerated, refriger-ated, would turn rancid so, In hopes of keeping you, Dearie, from such a pass I tell you here and now that it can. What did I do? I put the whole big pot full of beans out to cool, got my parkar and snow boots on and tore down to the market. We had tama-lies tama-lies smothered in canned chill con carne with beans, and very good too. When the pot of beans were cool, I put them out for the birds, wondering won-dering if I'd have to go out later and scoop them up. Then I sat me down to peek through a curtain in the window win-dow that looks out on my back yard here at The Last Resort Well, the birds came and they circled and looked first from one eye and then an other and they circled around and circled around. One of them was a robin, by the way. Well finally one of those feathered friends found the couraee to take a peck at a lima bean. He carried it off in triumph and the pile of beams began to go down at a great rate and the hunk of pork, too So, domestic crisis not only was resolved, but I had 'a lot of fun watching though I must say it's pretty expensive bird food, at that. Feeding birds is fun any how. I find down at my market mar-ket that there's a box of suet sitting there for bird lovers to take home for a real feast and how the little rascals do love suet. I'm not talking about bird , lovers now, I m talking about birds. Yesterday, to cap the climax of the bird thing, I saw one ha thin ff in the little middles of water sitting on top of the ice. (Made me shake ana shiver lust to watch the little rascal. I dont see how they survive. "Bye, now. Orem Geneva Times Thursday, March 5, 1964 Gfe (6 o: 000 Dear Editor: I have been following with great amusement and concern the problems that Orem City is having arriving at ar fair and equitable business license for the merchants doing business busi-ness in their community. There are questions that have arisen in my mind that people seem to want to forget. As I recall, when the problem first came before the City Council, the City Council appointed ap-pointed a committee from the members of the Chamber of Commerce and Orem City officials of-ficials to contact other communities com-munities and analyze their license li-cense system in order that Orem City might arrive at a fair and equitable license fee. This was done at expense to the City and to the committee members. They made their report and the City Council refused to accept their finds. Why? Why was the time and effort of this committee, plus the taxpayers' money wasted? Then the next step that ban been hard for me to under stand is how was the business busi-ness arrived as to who the City was going to prosecute regarding the business licenses. li-censes. At one point in the paper pa-per they indicated a list of approximately ap-proximately 40 businesses thart had not paid their licenses in accordance to the City Ordinance. Ordin-ance. How was one firm selected? se-lected? Was this a lottery? Was their named arrived at by pulling it out of a hat? Ctt just how? Because it is obvious obvi-ous that the adverse publicity has caused this merchant, I am sure, considerable loss in monies and time. Also, on this point, one of the articles in the paper after the hearing indicated that it would be approximately ap-proximately 2 to 3 months before be-fore a satisfactory answer could be arrived at on this case. Is the caliber of the City Councilmen that we presently have in Orem such that they are unable to make a decision with the power they hold without using the time and taxpayers' money to ask the court for a ruling? It appears to me, again, they are wasting taxpayer's dollars that they are trying to collecct Just what does the present City Commission want from Orem? Do they want a healthy business climate which creates cre-ates employment, tax dollars, etc? Or do they want a residential resi-dential town? If they want this residential town, do they realize that the tax burden on pur homes will be increased much higher than it presently is? And it is a known fact that Orem real estate is taxed much higher than the average city and town in Utah today. W. D. Losee CHRISTIAN SCIENCE TOPIC FOR SUNDAY The Bible Lesson at Christian Christ-ian Science churches this Sunday Sun-day will explore the question from IPsalms (8:3), "What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" Golden Text: "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him" (Genesis 1:27). One of the major themes will be these lines from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "The understanding understand-ing of his spiritual individuality individuali-ty makes man more real, more formidable in truth, and enables en-ables him to conquer sin, disease, and death" (p. 317).
