T. m TUSTEN .AGGIE , MV MADE OUT A UST I IMELL...THE FIRST TIME By Ruth Louise Thurs. June 6, 1963 and chit number 260 Have been expecting my youngest brother a-nd family from Washington state any moment for two days. They will come when I go back to work tomorrow. Ah well, one cam't have everything, ran one? And we have had RAIN. My yard is a picture and I haven't had to turn a harnd at watering. Went down town yesterday in the rain and 6naffled me a reconditioned lawn mower. Had no idea I could buy a second hand lawn mower. Went down to have sar keys made and a man came In to the store and got a fixed up lawn mower and I put my bid in a hurry. We're back to a hand mower again after five years of having a boy do it with a power mower. Boy has outgrown such mundane jobs and now the hunt is on again. So much interesting new3. The world awaiting the choice of a new Pope. Would be difficult dif-ficult for any man to follow Pope John XXIII. England up to its ears in a scandal. Gov. Rockefeller's political future in doubt because of divorce. What strange forces work. Will the peccadillos of a Conservative Conservat-ive English official topple the government of MaeMillan? Won't save it, that's sure, but the Conservatives were probably pro-bably on the way out anyhow. People demand change, no matter, and a scandal doesn't help. There are other interesting things in the news. Turns out a tobacco company can be sued in a case of death from lung cancer. This seems to me to be a fantastic thing. Cam't remember re-member when I was so surprised sur-prised at a verdict. Seems to me this opens great vistas to the "suit inclined" and will do more to curb the. sale of tobacco to-bacco than all the urgings from medical or religious groups. In the first place, the tobacco companies will almost be forced to say in their advertizing ad-vertizing that people smoke at their own risk, to get out from under the responsibility for death from lung cancer. This will be a change, now won t it? And, if tobacco companies can be successfully sued for (aAVvvAvAAAAaAAa) w v v " w w ii Foof Boisy Frosh'nil WITH You'll feel younger and live better when it swelters outside . . . with electric air conditioning in your home. Partridge death from lung cancer, what's to stop the alcoholics in time to come from suing for becom ing drunkards? I'm not saying that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer, you understand, I'm just saying that I was surprised that a suit was successful. And what will this verdict do to the tobacco stocks? You know, these stocks, up to now, have paid very well. When I first went down to Hogles to rcfc. about modest investments I was told so. But I didn't want to invest either in liquors or tobacco. Don't ask me why. do need money but somehow didn't need it THAT bad. Aren't people the queerest creatures? Well, let's see . . . My squash vines are burgeoning and so far not a squa9h bug in sight. I wonder if I can really hope to have a squash type squash for certain sure this season! Later: Going to rain again. I shall pick a Peace rose or two to keep them from getting battered. bat-tered. I'm not complaining about the rain, you understand. I made up my mini when the drought was on that I would never complain of rain again and I'm NOT complaining only why can't it spread itself over the hot weather a little, h'm? (BUT I'M NOT COMPLAIN ING. No company yet and wlith the weather what it is and the numerous reports of accidents, one begins to wonder if something some-thing has happened to our folks. Mayibe I have the wrong date or something. 'Bye, now. Motorist Pleads Guilty to Three Violations Marquis D. Perry, 59, Provo, pleaded guilty in Orem City Court to three traffic charges arising out of two accidents last week. The first accident occurred about 8:30 p..m. Wednesday at 1775 S.
