Poppy Day To Be Observed Here Saturday Memorial poppies will be j sold in Orem Saturday as the American Legion, and Veter ans of Foreign Wars Auxili- i aries observe TPoppy Day. The money will be used for rehabilitation of veterans and child welfare. According to auxiliary officials, the purpose of Poppy Day is to honor the war dead by assisting the liv ing. Poppies are made by disabl ed veterans as part of their therapy work. Some are hand- i made, some made by machine, and some even made by the j veterans with their feet. i Official proclamation of Saturday, Sat-urday, May 26 as Poppy Day was made by Orem's mavor i G. Milton Jameson. Poppies will be sold at the shopping centers, near the business houses and in resi-dental resi-dental areas. Morton's apple or cherry OHS Takes Part At AF Festival Out of 24 OHS entrants in the Spanish contests at the Foreign Language Festival held in American Fork, 18 rated high, with 15 superior and excellent ratings going to 10 students. Stephen Cranney made the highest score of a-11 OHS entrants. en-trants. Those rating superior in general comprehension were fctephen Cranney, S h a non Hughes, and Sheri Paisley. Shanon also rated superior in conservation. Those raiting excellent in general comprehension were Jury Johnson, Lupe Naranjo, unrysu uarbee, France Shinkle, Bill Farley, and Barbara Bar-bara Graham. Excellent ratines in conser vation were won by Chrvsti Barbee, Frances S hin k 1 e. Ester Stokes, Bill Farley, and faneri Paisley. There were 5 entrants from the French class, with 3 rating rat-ing high. In general compre- nension s a ndra Fitzwa-ter rated superior and Alan Grofe rated excellent. Certificates of achievement were presented to these winners win-ners at an awards dinner held recently. Konda Perry Wins 4-H Scholarship A $300 4-H scholarship to Snow College at Ephriam has been awarded to Konda Perry, Orem high school senior. Miss Perry is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elden Stewart Perry of 2277 No. 150 E., Pro-vo. Pro-vo. The scholarship is from the Standard Oil Company of California and will be presented pre-sented by R. W. Barbee, sales representative of the company. Miss Perry received the scholarship in recognition of h er leadership, scholarship and activities. She was selected sel-ected the best actress of tha school, has served as president. of the Thespians and was act-v ive in the Spanish Club, Tig- erettes, GAA " and Persona Patriota. A SGjj OREM Maggie F.Hundley Notes 84th Year t Ma-ggie F. Hundley noted her 84th birthday Tuesday at a quiet family dinner at her home. Birthday cake and gifts were brought by her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. (Lucille) Long. Mrs. Hundley is still active at her gardening hobby, and attends church meetings. For many years she taught school, and operated a fruit stand In Orem. She was born May 22, 1878, and came to Utah from Indiana In 1900. She reared five children. child-ren. Her only living child is Mrs. Long.
