Show X-:-':-V:V ; i city cocsciu The aew tity council held Its first B.cetlD(?-Mopdaj night at 7:20; all ..'members belutf present. Major-peal read a brief address, failing attention to the condition of the city and recommending that the tuuocil be as progressife. as the fl--naDces of Che city would permit. 'Oo motion of Hall, the rules of the former council were adopted as the rules of the council. The petition of I. E. Cleg for a correction cor-rection of deed was refereed to committee com-mittee on petitions and claims. Tiie petition of Mr. Palfreyman for same purpose went to the same committee. com-mittee. Considerable discussion took place as to what should be done in the matter mat-ter of appointing the city officers, H-ually H-ually resu'li iuj in the matter going oyer till the next meeting. With the understanding that a mass meeting of land owners would be held before that time to get an expression ex-pression from the people regardiug the watermaster. The matter ef fixing the salaries ot the city officers was theu taken up. The fee of the quarantine pnysician was reduced from $2 to $1.50 per visit. The salary of the supervisor of streets, after some dlsscussion and a mild scrap between Reynold? and Hall on one side and Robertson and Loynd on the other, was fixed at $2 per day for actual work performed. Robertson Robert-son said everything was cheap now and common laborers only got $1.25 per day and he saw no reason why 91.50 was not enough. Loynd also thought $1.50 plenty, he would be glad to get that much, In cash. Flail thought $2.00 was little enough for a man who had to give a bond and who had the responsibility of such a position. The work was of a special character, the supervisor did not work very day in the year but only now and then, and the position was not like that of a man who worked every 3ay. The proposition to cut the salary made Reynolds a little warm under the collar, and he. said he thought the street supervisor oiight to get more than what is allowed on poll tax. A with a family can not lire on $1.50 per day, and he did not believe in cutting wages. Pick and (hovel men on the Goshen canal got $!. 75 a day. The street supervisor should have $2 per day. The officer would not be constantly con-stantly employed, and besides cheap men would do cheap work. There is not a city in Utah county but what paid its supervisor at least $2 per day, and he was not in favorof Spring-ville Spring-ville being the first to cut. On the motion to make the salary $2 ptr day Reynolds, Hall and Scott voted aye. Loynd and Robertson, no. The latter two gentlemen askqd to have their voted on the matter recorded, re-corded, which the recorder did, while all other persons present "jes.laffed." Robertson wanted to make tee salary sal-ary of the Mayor $1 per session, but it as fixed at what the ex-mayor received re-ceived $60 per year. The; salaries of the other officers were fixed as follows: Treasurer, $12.50 per quarter, council, coun-cil, $1 per session and 20c per hour for committee work; Are Inspector. 25c per hour; recorder and auditor $70 per quarter. Claims were allowed as follows: Deputy Marsha! Bird $11.25 J.,S. Loynd, Jr., deputy marshal 10.50 Report or meat inspector for last quarter was read and placed on file. The sum, of ten dollars was appropriated appro-priated to the recorder for stationery, etc. The matter of the purchase of a docket for the justice of the peace was -"referred to committee on law with the Justice of the peace added. Report of watermaster for two years past was referred to committee on ways and means. Adjourned. Oure for Headache.
