Show SatSunMonTues, June 19-22, 2004 The Park Record C-3 Mountain Town oowss new taritosv Non-profit to host Kick-Off and CD Release Party for opening of Summer Concert Series By CASEY R. BASDEN Of the Record staff Randy Barton, first chair of Mountain Town Stages, is getting ready to present the fifth season of free summer concerts in Summit County. This is the first time, howev-er, howev-er, that Barton decided to spice things up with a kick-off party. , On Saturday, June 26, an array of activities will be going on at the Forum at The Canyons Resort. One in particular stands out from the rest. For several years, Barton has been interested in putting a CD together with some of Summit County's favorite musical acts. But, it never came to be. This year, that has changed. "We've always thought about it -we've always wanted to, but we've never had enough time or money. We still don't have any money but we are a music organization and it was time to offer a compilation CD featuring some of our best artists," says Barton. A panel of eight judges received more than 100 song submissions. Six musicians and three non-musicians listened to each song without knowing know-ing the artist they were listening to. The top 12 were selected and can now be found on "Local Wonders: The Music of Mountain Town Stages." Nearly half of the artists featured are from Summit County. The rest come from Salt Lake City. Artists include Doug Wintch, Kate MacLeod and The Pancakes, Gigi Love, Dave Hahn, Kathryn Warner, Jeanne Marie Rettos, Leraine Horstmanshoff, Anke Summerhill, John Flanders & Double Helix, Andy Monaco, Shauna Brittenham and Mary Beth Maziarz. These artists, with the exception of Rettos and Brittenham, will been seen on one of Mountain Town's smaller stages as part of the Summer Concert Series, which starts in July and continues through August The Kick-Off and CD Release Party will begin at 6 p.m. Between five and seven of die artists featured on "Local Wonders" will perform throughout the evening. There will be drawings and giveaways of the CD, Mountain Town Stages T-shirts and "room night" at The Canyons. In addition to these activities, Mountain Town will announce the season lineup and pass out schedules for the Summer Concert Series, which presents more than 100 artists n The Utah AIDS Foundation 16th Annual Walk for Life will be held today at the Gallivan Center, 239 S, Main St. in Salt Lake City inside the Folk & Bluegrass Festival. The music begins at 2 p.m., registration begins at 5 p.m. and the Walk for Life begins at 6 pjtn. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.utahaids.org.. on several stages in Summit County. The Canyons will be fully operational opera-tional with food vendors and people are welcome to bring coolers. According to Barton, "This is the first time we've asked people who like what we're doing to come together and celebrate the beginning of our summer series." The CD will also be available to the general public for $15. Artists will be on hand for a signing as well. Barton hopes the CD can be used as a fundraising tool where people buy it as gifts. Mountain Town Stages will present pres-ent its Season Kick-Off and CD Release Party Saturday, June 26 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Forum at The Canyons Resort Admission is free.
