Show . WedThursFri, July 31- Aug 2, 2002 The Park Record B-3 Super Sevens attracts 130 Continued from B1 With limited opportunities to play high-level lacrosse in Utah during the summer, the PCLO thinks it has found an important and useful niche. I "The kids get a T-shirt and a ; chance to play lacrosse. That's all I they need," Moore said. "The boys at this tournament are some of the best in the state. There are summer leagues in Salt Lake and camps, but ; the only regional tournament that's ' available is in Vail. That's pretty far J away and harder to get to than : Park City." ; If the PCLO can bank on its ; place as the premier summer lacrosse tournament this side of I Vail, it might be able to add the "Super Sevens to its list of fundraisers, fundrais-ers, which includes the annual Christmas tree pickup. Because lacrosse isnt an official ly recognized recog-nized high school sport in Utah, all of the money required to run the club team comes from players, par-ents par-ents and the PCLO. For the club to continue to grow especially now that two high school students are in the process of starting at least one girls team creative fundraisers are crucial. "It takes money to get a sport going and have it continue," Moore said, adding the PCLO spends money on everything from equipment equip-ment to chartered buses. But with the sport growing rapidly, rap-idly, Moore is confident the Super Sevens and the club itself will mirror mir-ror that increase. He says that when the. PCLO started planning the Super Sevens tournament, it anticipated antici-pated gradual growth and, so far, reality has matched concept. Moore hopes the pattern continues. "With the growth of lacrosse in Utah and in Park City, we did think it would grow at about this pace. Last year there were 24 high school teams in the state. Next year, there will be between 26 and 30. We should continue to grow at this pace," Moore said, adding there is a limit to how much the tournament tourna-ment could expand. "At 250, we would surpass field capacity, referee refer-ee capacity and my capacity. But it would be good numbers for our club and we would make some significant sig-nificant money. "We're hoping for 150 to 160 kids next year." Notes: Moore is quick to deflect credit for the successful tournament. tourna-ment. "It wouldn't happen without the great volunteers we have with the PCLO and Basin Rec," he said. "We couldnt do it without their support." Moore says 25 volunteers helped out over the weekend, doing everything from refereeing matches to helping keep score to manning the concession stand. A club from Las Vegas made the trip to Park City and proved to be one of the tougher teams at the tournament. "We went down to Las Vegas to play in their tournament, and we asked them to come up here and get out of the heat and play in ours," Moore said, adding that the PCLO has also worked with Utah coaches to promote the tournament. h-h-h-h-h The secret is out . . . every Wednesday night SPECIAL DINING three incredible courses SPECIAL PRICE $15.95 SPECIAL PEOPLE our customers SPECIAL PLACE dine outside, inside or in Truffle Hollow but, oh course, we're special anytime! pr7 cV RESTAURANT "Y S002 1235 WARM SPRINGS ROAD MIDWAY UTAH 435 654-I4OO S6 ofies mm w? -4 2" Hosted by:, 23? : i&;. ;.
