High School Band goes to San Francisco H I S 1 O R I t A L by Bea Mayes During the difficult times in Park City after World War II, one resounding bright note was the" Park City High School Band, men-tored men-tored by Byron Jones. In 1950, Utah selected the Park City High School Band (see photo) to participate partic-ipate in the East-West game Shriners pageant at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco. They were the featured band at that year's half-time half-time show. The inset shows officials and band members on Dec. 27, 1950, as the band buses were about to leave, left to right. Mayor Earle Reseigh, Jim Santy, Beverly Hall, Patricia Terry, Bruce Peterson, band mentor Byron Jones, and union president Matt Leahy. The banners were affixed to the sides of the buses for the trip. The group visited the sights of San Francisco and met the city mayor. Several members appeared on TV, and the band played two concerts for crippled children at the Shriners Hospital, after which the young patients gave the band a heart-touching cheer. On Saturday at Kezar Stadium, as the Park City High School Band followed the massed flags onto the field, the loudspeakers proclaimed, "Here comes that high-stepping band from Utah." They played at half-time while the other units assembled, and received warm applause as they began their own drill. "But when they went into the dance 'Brass Band Boogie' a tremendous ovation, with most of the 67,000 people standing, gave the kids from Park City one of the greatest tributes lhat any group has ever received... Thrills, chills, laughter and joy were Ihe intermingled inter-mingled feelings of our group. It was the supreme reward lor all the hard work and sacrifices to achieve this trip," an alumnus recalled. The Park City High School Band was founded by Hymn Jones in 1929 with nine student members, mem-bers, and continues to stimulate audiences to this dav. The wedding will be celebrated on Aug. 10, 2(K)2 at the Empire Lodge in Deer Valley. Becky is a graduate of Park City High School, Pepperdine University and University of San Diego Law School. Danny is also a graduate of Pepperdine University. The happy couple will reside in West Los Angeles, Calif., where Becky is employed by Lexis Nexis Inc., and Danny works at Fox Studios in Hollywood. Obituary ; Nancy Quinn Prettner Lombard On July 22, 2002, Nancy Lombard took her place among the angels. She fought a courageous battle with progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, a disease she contracted while fighting non-Hodgkin's non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Nancy was born in Chicago on May 12, 1936 to Edythe Dixon and Don Quinn, the creator and writer of "Fibber McGee and Molly." Nancy lived her life according to basic, yet often overlooked principles: princi-ples: the Golden Rule, service above self, never judge a book by its cover and always help and care for those in need. Nancy will be missed by her first husband, Fred Prettner, their son Chip and his wife Morgan, and their children, Fred, Lorelei and Morgan; tier husband Jim Lombard, his daughter Gypsy and husband Mike, daughter Charlie and husband Darren, Brad and Alice Shimmin, Lizzie R., Kathy K., Deborah M., Paula S. and Shelle K.
