March 10 after an electrical problem, according to city officials. Smoke reportedly came from a light strip on the bus's floor but the bus did not catch fire, said Rob ChriMenscn from the Transportation Department. There were no injuries, he said. T he incident occurred at 1 1:43 a.m. while the bus was on Aster Lane, which is in Silver Lake. Only a few people were on the bus. Other incidents reported to the Park City Police Department last week included: On Sunday, March 10 at 8:44 a.m.. police received a report that a snowboard and boots were stolen from a locker in a building on the 1300 block of Lowell Avenue. A pair of sunglasses was also take, police said. At l.il a.m., police arrested a man for simple assault, intoxication intoxica-tion and failing to leave a bar after he refused to exit an establishment estab-lishment on the 400 block of Main Street. At 3:20 a.m., police arrested a man on the 700 block of Park Avenue for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. On Saturday. March 9 at 1 1:58 p.m.. a man ripped a purse away from a woman who was walking on the 4(X) block of Main Street. The man ran away, police said. One man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and not having insurance. On Friday, March 8 at 12:32 p.m. and again at 12:57 p.m., police reported that they were investigating child-abuse cases within the city. At 10:03 a.m. a wallet was reported missing on the 7500 block of Royal Street. Police stopped a motorist just north of the Old Town roundabout round-about at 11:04 a.m. An officer warned the driver for a stop sign violation and failing to yield af the roundabout. On Thursday, March 7 at 6:34 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Ontario Avenue, where a vehicle reportedly pulled into a driveway and hit a parked car. Police found the suspect vehicle and arrested the driver for driving driv-ing under the influence of alcohol or drugs. At 3:50 p.m., a sport-utility vehicle reportedly slid off the road on the Guardsman Connection. An officer, though, found no such wreck. However, several traffic accidents were reported at about the same time. No injuries were reported, police said. Police received a report that PARK CITY MUNICIPAL CORPORATION 1884 1884 Park City Historic District Commission Vacancies There are two vacancies on the Historic District Commission effective February, 2002. Prospective applicants should be either a: 1) licensed architect; or, 2) someone with a Main Street commercial business interest. Applicants must be residents of Park City. The HDC reviews applications regarding residential and commercial construction in Park City's Historic District. Terms are for two years and meetings are held the first and third Monday evenings of the month. Applications are available in the Planning Department. Call ReNae for information at 615-5060. March 6 at 3:41 p.m., police were summoned to the 2KX) block of Park Avenue, where a person reportedly report-edly locked himself in a room and wanted the police. The person voluntarily went to the University of Utah to be evaluated, police said. On Tuesday. March 5 at 8:06 p.m.. police received a complaint that a locker was opened and items were taken from a local gym. A coat and sunglasses were taken, police said. At 2:18 p.m.. a shoplifter was reported in a store on the 1S(X) block of Park Avenue. City Council waits to make appointments By JAY HAMBURGER Of the Rec ord staff Three people will be appointed appoint-ed to the Park City Planning Commission in the next few weeks. Last Thursday, the Park City Council conducted interviews of the people who are vying for the appointments. One man was arrested for disorderly conduct con-duct and refusing to leave the bar when asked. On Monday. March 4 at 5:29 p.m., a suspicious chemical was reported on Lowell Avenue. The substance was snow-melt formula formu-la but the caller was concerned that it would seep into, the water supply. An officer said the complaint com-plaint would be forwarded to the Public Works Department. Police received three faxed reports of stolen skis from Park Citv Mountain Resort at around 11:30 a.m. At 9:12 a.m., two lost cellular phones were reported on Main Street. at the earliest on March 21st, the date of the next possible regular City Council meeting. This week. Williams and the City Council will hold their annual retreat. Six people are vying for four-year four-year terms on the Planning Commission. Jim Barth. John Colligan, Bob Powers. Megan Ryan, Brian Strait and Diane Zimney submitted submit-ted applications. Powers and Zimney are incumbent commissioners. commis-sioners. ' Powers is seeking his first full term while Zimney wants to serve a third term. Also Jim Hier. who won a City Council seat while serving on the Planning Commission, must be replaced. The interviews last week were open to the public. Howevet City Council deliberations about the appointments will be held during closed-door discussions. State law allows the City Council to meet privately to talk about personnel matters, such as appointments to commissions or advisory boards. J The Planning Commission is readying to return to a normail schedule after largely taking a hiatus for the Winter Olympics.
