One was for pleasure and one was for the Luxury Trael show which I attended last week. I have traveled through Vegas since the tils. We lived m San Diego and our relatives were in Wyoming. I have watched it grow from three hotels in the early 50s to what it is today. Each time 1 am amaed at the building, the numbers of people and the luxury that Las Vec as pro-v pro-v ides. I as 'cp:s wns the 1 mJ (f chc p riKMiis, food, entertainment and dunks. It was alford.ible for almost any rxvketbook. just as lonjj as the dollars emptied out on the casino tables In 1 wj. however, the Mirage opened, and every thing changed. Caesars Palace wasnt the only game in town for the luxury traveler. travel-er. I "he Mirage featured a flash) volcano for a front yard and a tropical tropi-cal rain forest in its atnum. The casino w as light and airy, decorated in understated Caribbean themes, and the restaurants had such names as Wolfgang Puck attached to them. The rooms were the highest rates in tow n. The Mirage brought class, and it also brought in v tsitors in double-digit double-digit percentages and precipitated a boom in building in Las Vegas. Room rates were guaranteed to nse. and so was the bar on luxury. Eleven years later. Las Vegas has a five star hotel. The Venetian, two Mobil Guide five-star restaurants, more th in a handful of premium properties and the most expensive shows on the planet. The city raised the ante on luxury and has won its bet. If you fly into Vegas, sou land at the McCarran International Airport. Why not be met by a person per-son in a black cap holding a placard . with vour name on it? Limousine sen ices abound in Las Vegas. It is fun and easy, and they average S"0 to W) an hour before tips, and they can seat up to eicht people comfortably. uutt A guide to all that is delicious in Park City III i fflllim lliitll I i n 1 .if h -irn 1 liimmiMmmiiUl-imitlMll Tiillllv 'I i I tmn i ., . ....n ...i-r.i-J 1.
