PCNST skis in Idaho Submitted by Jim Beck The Park City Nordic Ski Team older juniors traveled to McCall, Idaho to participate in the second of three Junior Olympic qualifying races last weekend. McCall is the site for this year's Cross Country Junior Olympics, so this race provided pro-vided a great opportunity for the athletes to get a preview of the course. Along with seeing a new course there were new competitors. Lured by the JO venue, a strong group of skiers from Washington, Oregon and California participated in addition to the Intermountain skiers. In spite of the stronger field Park City came home with results. In the J2 women's 5K freestyle on Saturday, Meghan Beck and Whitney Thompson came in first and second respectively followed by Erin Forsythe in sixth place. For the J2 men, Dan Chudleigh finished fourth and Jay McEntire 10th. In the 10K men's race Eric Tietze came in ninth and Will Sumner 16th. :;, The classic:.;Bce on Sunday proved why fishsales, mohair and skating were il&fcnted. He never the less skied to a hard-earned hard-earned 3rd place. Conditions warmed up and the Park City women had a better time of it as Beck turned in the winning time followed fol-lowed by Thompson in third and Forsythe in 7th. The Jl men's race turned into an endurance test as the distance increased to 15K with 2.5K on slower track which had not been skied out as much. Tietze placed seventh in a strong field. The trip was not without some hardship as Zach Simons, traditionally on the podium, missed both races on Sunday with a cold and was joined on the sidelines by Jay McEntire.
