The show opens Friday, July 12 at noon and runs Singer stays low at rodeo ABILENE, Texas (AP) Country singer George Strait at times donned sunglasses and a baseball cap to try to keep a low profile while he was in town to see his son compete in the Texas High School Rodeo Association finals. "He wanted to be just a dad this week," said Cindy Hendley, who handled publicity for the event. "He asked for no special treatment, and he got none." For the most part, Strait was successful. But a lucky few caught glimpses of the singer whose hits include "Amarillo By Morning" and ''Check Yes or No," which won best single at the fan-voted TNN Music City News Country Awards. Strait did not attend the show in Nashville. , When one enthusiastic fan tried to take Strait's picture at the rodeo, a couple of kids stood up and blocked the shot. "He's here as George Strait the father, not George Strait the singer," said ticket-taker Julie Bryant, adding Strait himself purchased pur-chased tickets for every performance. George "Bubba" Strait Jr., 15, competed in team roping events but wasn't among the Top 10 finishers. Insurance Auto, life, fire, health 1662 Bonanza Drive (next to Park Record Bldg.)
