Summers were always the time to travel U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean and she took full advantage of every moment. Traveling made her realize good cooks were wanted everywhere. every-where. Answering an ad for a cook, she was hired and for two years, a sail boat was home. She loved it. So much so that she got her license as a diving instructor and introduced hundreds of people peo-ple to the beauty of undersea life in the Carribean. The beauty and color of this experience remains with her today as she fashion and designs three dimensional ceramic fish and tiles to grace the homes of her clients. In 1986, Tanner discovered Park City on one of her numerous jaunts to see new places. It was love at first sight. The skiing helped make the decision, and she soon moved to the area and became a member of the Park City Ski Patrol. i f I .1 f ? '. -1 such as these to grace her clients' homes. However, all wheels were taken by the time she arrived in class, so Larrabee suggested sug-gested she work with the slab method. After a week of slab construction, construc-tion, she had no desire to go to the wheel. Larrabee was so impressed by what she had accomplished that he encouraged her to continue in this field. Hence her creations of today. Two years ago, she read an ad looking for individuals to work with the National Science Foundation. With her sea-going background, she got the job. A great experience and a job so well done that she has been asked to return this time for 13 months. She has accepted and leaves for special training in a month. During the summer Antarctica months, some 140 individuals will be at the pole research lab, but when winter sets in, the base will be reduced to 28 individuals. Tanner will be among them. Summers, of course, are delightful with an average temperature tem-perature of -30 degrees. Winters are somewhat cooler with a temperature tem-perature average of -127 degrees. Yes, a -127 degrees. Tanner found her co-workers to be great people, and a number of them, like herself, were involved in the arts. Among her fellow workers were two professional musicians, two painters, one actor and a metal sculptor. Between them it was, "I'll teach you you teach me." Great trade-offs and fun. Since returning to Park City and preparing for the Antarctica, Tanner has been invited and participated par-ticipated in ten art festivals throughout the U.S., including our own Park City Art Festival.
