The first Annual Guerrilla International Film Festival," an alternative film festival to be held Jan. 20-27 in Salt Lake City. Under a wave of growing dissatisfaction dissat-isfaction with the "Hollywood-iza-tion" of the Sundance Film Festival, filmmakers are coming together to organize their own festival. "As independent filmmakers we enjoy being in control of our own des-tinyies des-tinyies and we simply decided to get off our butts and do something to promote our work," said Shane Kuhn, co-founder of Slamdance '95 and director of Redneck, one of the six feature films world premiering at Slamdance '95. Slamdance '95 will screen 11 independent features, including six world premieres, and shorts during the week of Jan.uary 20-27 at the ' University of Utah in Salt Lake City. All of the films in the festival share a commitment to micro-budget filmmaking, and all still have distribution rights available. "We've got a lot of new blood in these films, and there will be some great discoveries," said Dan Mirvish, co-founder co-founder and director of Omaha (the movie). "We're not professional programmers-just filmmakers supporting sup-porting one another." The following features are scheduled for Slamdance '95 (indicates World Premiere): Low, The Great Unpleasantness, God Drives a Pontiac, Redneck, Loser, Omaha (the movie), Self-Portrait, Self-Portrait, Flesh suitcase, 2 1, and Joe's Rotten World, as well as a special screening of Jon Purdy's Reflections of a Crime and a special screening TBA. Although it has received great support to date, Slamdance '95 is still seeking corporate cor-porate sponsorship and program advertising. "Our diverse collection of films could be described as provocative, unique, or just plain gonzo but they are all unquestionably independent," indepen-dent," said Kuhn. "Festivals are supposed to give the little the little a shot. Unfortunately, some of the fests have taken their original idea, a platform for smaller films that may not have a chance at Cannes, Toronto, and the like, and become so political that they prevent the innovative originality they once represented," said cso-founder Jon Fitzgerald (director Self-Portrait).
