First we forgot the first aid kit and tarp. After returning to camp to get them we started out again. Still, the sun wasn't even up yet. But before long we found our way blocked by a steep wall that went straight into the lake. We had to either find a way around, over or through the cliff, or hike several miles around the lake. We worked bur way up and along ledges in the cliff and after just 45 minutes found ourselves on the other side of the obstacle. We spent the next several hours working our way up through the rocks and snow fields, around waterfalls water-falls and cliffs to the base of the Anderberg Glacier. (The glacier was named after Ben Anderberg from Heber City.) We used ice axes, to travel up the glacier. The danger on the glacier was the glasslike ice. It was enough to keep everyone alert. At the top of the glacier we crossed the Burgschrund and onto the rock ridge leading to the summit. sum-mit. After breaking for lunch we started up the steep rock ridge. We moved slowly and carefully, concentrating concen-trating so as not to knock any loose rocks on our partners below us. Looking down hundreds of feet to the glacier below gave us plenty of incentive in-centive not to make mistakes. By 1 p.m. we were sitting on the summit of the Sphinx looking over the whole Wind River Range and beyond. From there, we sent a "Barbaric yalp (yell) over the rooftops of the world." W the climbers had no choice but Once back on the glacier we tried our hand (or foot) at glissading (skiing (ski-ing on shoes.) Then, further down the glacier, we played in the snow, practicing for the upcoming ski season. (It's a good thing Park City isn't at 12,000 feet; there isn't much oxygen up there.) By the time we reached our camp we were all exhausted. The toughest day of the trip was over. The next morning we slept in until almost 8 a.m. Everyone moved around camp slowly, but by 10:00 we were on the move again. Carrying full packs, we climbed to an 11,500 foot pass. We had lunch on top, then climbed 12,161-foot Heath Peak, named after group member Heath Huffman, the first to reach the top. Instead of climbing down, we did a 140-foot free-hanging rappell off the mountain. A big adrenalin high! Chiropractic Outlook By Donald A. Cofer, D.C. We cooked cook-ed a dinner of Top Ramen, popcorn and chocolate mousse. That night marked a changing point in our trip we were no longer heading into the mountains; we were now heading home. The talk was of good home-cooked food and hot showers. The next day we went nine miles, pausing only for a quick swim and lunch at Seneca Lake. That afternoon we each picked a place of our own to sit and think about the week. We filled out the evaluation sheets and spent some time sleeping before dinner. The next morning everyone was up by 6 a m, and ready to hit the trail by 7:30. By ll a.m.'we were enjoying a huge, hearty breakfast at the Wrangler Cafe in Pinedale.
