Show Park Record Thursday, March 3, 1988 PageA15 We ask for a retraction Editor: As officers of the PCEA, we ask for a retraction of the statement attributed at-tributed to "Sources from the Park City Education Association" (Mcln-tire (Mcln-tire Not Rehired) in the Feb. 25, 1988 edition of the Park Record. The statement attributed to the PCEA by a "PCEA source" does not reflect the position of the association. The PCEA has not taken a position on the board action concerning the superintendent. All statements representing a PCEA position must be identified as such and can only be made by executive officers who are the authorized spokespersons for the association. PCEA co-presidents, BillHunke Scott Rogers Editor's note: While we understand the PCEA's concern what we have here is a case of semantics. Our source was not a spokeperson for the group nor was the individual inden-tified inden-tified as such. However, to explain to our readers the credibilty of the source we felt the need the individual in-dividual be identified as a member of the organization. 'Look forward to my next visit' Editor: I just returned back east after spending a long weekend visiting my sister, Daryle, a "local." In 1985, she informed me that she was moving out to Utah and I could not understand unders-tand what was so terrific about Park City. Immediately, I felt very much at home. The warmth and friendliness of the town was such a wonderful feeling. It's such a beautiful environment that I can now understand why Daryle lives there. We shared two fun-filled days and I certainly look forward to my next visit. Daryle, I miss you, but I can see why you love the area. Thanks so much! Susan Isacoff, Richboro, PA. A big cheer for Kid s Kampus Editor: We had the wonderful opportunity to share a very special day with our daughter last week. Kids Kampus, in conjunction with the Kinderschool (Park City Ski Corp.), held a standard stan-dard race for all the participants in their mid-winter ski program. It was heart-warming to watch the patience of the instructors as they assisted 20 or more 3-5 year olds through a series of slalom gates. Some took the course straight on, while some redesigned the theory of racing, yet all were cheered on and encouraged by their instructors and met with a hug and pat on the back by Ike Coleman, owner of Kid's Kampus. The program was concluded by an awards presentation and each child was pinned with a gold medal and Park City "Great Olympic Hope" pin. "Each of you are winners today," said gentle-mannered Ike. "It doesn't matter how, or how fast you skied, but that you did your very best and that is a tremendous accomplishment. ac-complishment. The most important thing I want you to remember is how very proud we are of you." Children do indeed live what they learn and we want to express our sincere appreciation for the dedication, dedica-tion, patience and kindness that all those involved showed the kids of our town. The community of Park City should be very proud to have the fine instructors we do and a quality child care program called Kid's Kampus. Our special and personal thanks for your job of excellence. Kym and Dan Meeham The letter below was written to the Park City City Council with copies sent to The Record and the NJ Ski Council. Dogs hinder family vacation Dear Council Members : While we were in your town from 21388 to 22088 on our first ski vacation to Utah our family friend (Paula Langford) was bitten (quite severely) by one of the large dogs that we were accustomed to seeing everywhere we went in Park City. The incident was reported to the Park City Police (Case No. 88-0337) and she required treatment at your Park City Health Clinic. It was not until we were flying home that I recalled how I thought it strange at the time that the dog warden's phone number would be posted in large numbers near the telephone in the Park City Ski Area gondola building. Now I know why. You have a severe dog problem. This same dog came at me immediately im-mediately after his first attack on Paula. We also heard from the people peo-ple gathered at the scene that the dog had previously bitten a 12 year old boy. I recalled walking back to our condo earlier that same day and noticed a woman walking her two children right in front of the house where that dog was being kept. I shudder to think what would have happened if that dog decided to go after one of the small children certainly cer-tainly a more serious case when small children are involved. I suggest you enforce your dog laws or write laws if none exist. As for us, we will spend our leisure dollars elsewhere Park City is not safe as far as rny family is concerned. concern-ed. Sincerely, Bob Kopec and family Thank you for support Editor: The family members of Alfonzo Martinez wish to thank all their Park City friends and all those who offered their sympathy and support during his illness and at his passing. Mabel Martinez Richard Martinez & Family Community lends hand for tourney Editor: Park City High School hosted the Region IX boys basketball tournament tourna-ment last week at the TMMS gymnasium. gym-nasium. The tournament went quite well, thanks to the efforts of a number of people and organizations. We would like to offer our appreciation ap-preciation to Police Chief Frank Bell and his officers, especially Leo Witt, and to Sheriff Fred Eley and his staff for the solid support given us throughout the tournament. Because of their presence and efforts the event was held without incident despite the fact that there has been a disturbing amount of violence and spectator discourtesy in others of the region's communities of recent. We also offer our thanks to Linda David;-principal of Treasure Mountain Moun-tain Middle School, and those of her staff who provided cooperation and assistance in the use of their facility. Dr. Russell Belk, University of Utah, taught a whole Saturday seminar on consumer economics. Steve Krenkel sat through a Saturday morning session ses-sion contributing constructive suggestions sug-gestions to the team's speeches. Many Park City High School teachers donated time and effort in helping to prepare our students. Anita Booher's many hours of research assistance were crucial. Bill Kahn's five seven a.m. physics seminars were above and beyond the call of duty. Presentations by Scott Rogers in math, K. C. Mauler in art, and Gail McBride in health prepared the team in these areas. Chris Maddux critiqued each of the students' speeches early when help was most needed. Two of Academic Decathlon's strongest supporters need special thanks: Dr. Jack Dozier's constant, unwavering commitment to the students and the coaches is deeply appreciated, and the school board's unflinching moral and financial contribution con-tribution to us is of paramount importance. im-portance. .
