Thanks for machine Editor: The Park City Handicapped Sports Association would like to thank Mellie Pullman for her generous donation of a telephone answering machine to our organization. organiza-tion. Thanks Mellie! Call us and see how it works! Meeche White, Program Director Good job, fire department Editor: As a life-long resident of Park City, Ci-ty, I feel that I have had a serious misconception of the Park City Fire Department. In the past, it was my experience that whenever there was a fire here in Park City, the building would almost always burn completely complete-ly because our Volunteer Fire Department was inadequately equipped. When I arrived at the Jan. 9 fire at Homestake Condominiums, the con-do con-do to the right and above the unit I own was engulfed in flames. I was amazed when I saw how efficiently the Park City firemen were handling the fire. I feel that everyone in Park City should be very proud of the progress pro-gress our fire department has made and that we should support it as much as possible. I wish to thank every member of the Park City Fire Department for their very good work. Trudy Piva Hearing group provides help Editor: Self-help groups can be very important im-portant to people who feel isolated because of a certain experience or physical condition. I suffered a one-sided hearing loss which was caused by a brain tumor. It is important to see your doctor about any one-sided hearing loss and have a CAT scan if necessary to rule r out an acoustic tumor as the cause of this problem. An acoustic neuroma is a benign growth which begins in the inner ear and "flowers" out into the skull base. The Acoustic Neuroma Association has found 2,000 people in the United States who have had this tumor removed, and who share many of the same "after" problems related to removal. Before I learned of the Acoustic Neuroma Association, I felt different dif-ferent and isolated in spite of support sup-port from family and friends, because in addition to one-sided deafness, I suffered from facial and eye muscle weakness and other physical problems caused by necessary manipulation of the brain to remove the tumor. Our quarterly newsletter includes articles by physicians on eye and facial therapies, balance exercises, and, most helpful to me, letters from people who've "been there," and share self-help tips for improving one's physical condition and coping. Hundreds of us attend and share in an annual meeting which features physician speakers and self-help workshops. If anyone would like more information infor-mation about Acoustic Neuroma or the Acoustic Neuroma Association (ANA), you may contact the volunteer-staffed office. Write or call ANA, P. 0. Box 398, Carlisle, PA 17013. Phone: (717 ) 249-4783. Alicia G.
