Show Concerts again for ParkWest? Pnrk ( il News Thursday, March 24, 1983 Page A7 The ParkWest Resort is discussing the possibility of again hosting a series of summer music concerts. President Jack Roberts said four to seven concerts might be done. Due to unreliable weather, he said, it's certain none would be staged before mid-June. "The two most important things we're looking look-ing for are quality and financial stability," he said. No firm agreements have been made for a series, a date, or a musical act, said Roberts. However, a story in the "Daily Utah Chronicle", the University of Utah paper, pa-per, said the Grateful Dead was considering a ParkWest outdoor concert in September. Septem-ber. (For that reason, the article said, the Dead passed up a playdate at the U. this spring.) The Dead have always wanted to do an outdoor show here, said the paper. United Concerts in Salt Lake confirmed they had discussed the group with ParkWest. Vice-president Sherman Baker said other acts mentioned have been Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Loggins, Air Supply, and Men at Work. "In a way, we don't like to mention the possibilities, because then you get people continually calling and asking, ask-ing, 'When are you going to get so-and-so.'" No definite acts have been slated by United. "We will try to get people going back to ParkWest," said Baker. "I'll be happy with four concerts. We could have more, but would not have any less." (Jack Roberts said one other firm, at this time, has approached the resort about a series.) The ParkWest concerts have had a rocky history the last two years. In 1981, the Summit County Commission Commis-sion prohibited outdoor liquor liq-uor to combat a perceived problem of rowdyism at the concerts. (In the most crucial cru-cial incident, a Park City resident was killed when he was struck on his motorcycle by a drunken driver leaving one of the concerts.) Last year, Mountainside Concerts failed to come through with a planned series of events. Roberts said they physically organized orga-nized the shows well at the resort, "But they did a lousy job of getting the people (acts) here. They went on the oral representations of the agents." But promoters seem to be aware of past problems. "There was a conflict be-' tween the community and the presentation of the shows," said Sherman Baker. Bak-er. "We won't have any hard-rock shows. We will have a more controlled environment." But are the Dead hard rock or soft rock? "They can't be classified." said Baker. librarian search narrows to ten candidates Out of a field of 30 applicants from all over the country, the Park City Library Li-brary Board has narrowed the field to 10 qualified candidates. According to Board President Julie Ber-tagnole, Ber-tagnole, the final decision will be made next month. A committee of four board members culled the first round of responses. All nine members read the 15 most qualified applications and from them selected 10 to ask for personal interviews. "I'm pleased with the caliber cali-ber of people interested in the position, at least on paper," said Bertagnole. The interviews begin this week. Romey Haberle has been appointed acting library director di-rector until a new librarian is chosen. "Judy left things in good shape," says Haberle. New Man of France.
