Henderson will be missed Editor's note: Reprinted below is a copy of a letter written from Richard Goodworth, superintendent of schools in the Park City School District, to Park City Manager Arlene Loble and the members mem-bers of the City Council. Dear Ms. Loble and Park City Council members : May I speak for the Board of Education and administration of the Park City School District when I say that it is with regret we note the resignation of Bruce Henderson as director of the Park City Recreation Department. Please know of our appreciation ap-preciation for his eforts and the great opportunities we have had of working with you through Mr. Henderson. While we have had differences on some matters in the past, we have always felt that the working relationship relation-ship of the recreation program has been one of the truly bright spots. We have enjoyed working together and sincerely hope to continue. We would encourage you, as you attempt to select someone to fill that position, to look for the same sterling qualities and capabilities that Mr. Henderson has exhibited. Please know of our willingness to work with your new people for the mutual benefit of all the citizens of our area. Sincerely, Richard L. Goodworth, Ed. D. Superintendent of Schools o 7 : 30 p.m . Students who elected to participate had to construct the lightest but strongest bridge possible of white glue and flat toothpicks to span an imaginary river some 25 cm in width. We held our bridge-breaking ceremony on Wednesday, February 16. It was a smashing success. The winning win-ning bridge supported exactly 900 times its own weight breaking last year's record by over 240 grams. Our winners were: 1. John Gooderham, Grade 6, 900 times its own weight. 2. Clint Barlow, Grade 6, 866 times its own weight. 3. Jennifer Holcomb, Grade 6, 796 times its own weight. 4. Steve Chamberlain, Grade 6, 762 times its own weight. 5. Justin Carbine, Grade 7, 758 times its own weight. The staff of Tresure Mountain Middle Mid-dle School wishes to thank Timmer-manStepan Timmer-manStepan Architects, Reynolds and Mammen Architects, Dolly's Books and Davanza's for donating prizes to our winning students. Cngratulations to the 115 students who built bridges and to our winning students. Sincerely, Brian Schiller Principal Whose idea was it? Editor: Last week's front page article, "Principals spar over the use of new school facilities," did not address the basic problem in the principals' dispute. Dr. Schiller, the middle school principal, prin-cipal, was upset because a proposal involving middle-school students and facilities was written by a high school teacher without any consultation with Dr. Schiller or his staff before presenting presen-ting the proposal to the school board for approval. When he voiced this concern, Dr. Dozier adamantly insisted the proposal had not originated in the high school; the directive for the proposal had come from Dr. Goodworth, the superintendent. At thiSjlWcture, Dr. GoodwWth acknowledged that he was the one who had requested the proposal. The question which the press, public and school board should address is why the Planning Commission March 9, Upcoming! Surely he knew this would cause friction. A superintendent should resolve misunderstandings and ill feelings, not promote them. Dick Worley Kudos for buses Editor's note: Here is a copy of a letter from Mary Doughty, president of the Historic Main Street Association, to Kay Draper, acting director of the Park City Transportation Department. Dear Kay Draper: The Historic Main Street Association compliments the department on their excellent free bus service. The schedules are running smoothly and the general response has been favorable. You are providing a much needed service for our tourists, locals, and especially for the Historic Main Street District. Keep up the good work. Mary Doughty President, HMSA Grossly misquoted Dear Editor: In last week's article I was grossly misquoted and would like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. At no time have I ever made the remarks attributed to me regarding the Club or its clientele. On the contrary, I have great respect for Mr. Stemler's business sense, and have on occasion asked him for his opinions regarding club related matters. In essence, what I did say, and still believe, is that "the powers that be" used any problems they may have had with the Club as an excuse to deny me a building permit. For the past two years I have entertained starting a business in Salt Lake City. The city's stance regarding a building permit for Mileti's was what gave me the push to do it now. I am a firm believer in circumstances working out for the best in the long run and appreciate the city's unwitting role in our new venture. Coupled with the embarrassment of being misquoted in your article was the ;. irritation of having the club misnamed again and again. Please" igei it I straight It's The Zephyr Club.
