Show Park Ci(y News Thiirsdav, February 3, 1983 Page C3 Winter sports, Western landscapes to be focus of exhibit at KAC New York's Cecile Johnson John-son and Utah's Jerry Fuhri-man Fuhri-man will display their outdoor out-door paintings at the Kimball Kim-ball Art Center from Feb. 6 to March 3. Johnson, whose water-colors water-colors will be on display in the Main Gallery, has gained recognition as one of the country's foremost winter sports artists. Her water-colors water-colors have been displayed on ABC's Wide World of Sports, Canadian television, the BBC, and on Eurovision during the 1976 Olympics in Innsbruck. Her work has also been published in Sports Illustrated. Johnson has been a frequent fre-quent visitor of Park City. "Memorable Mountains," a series of watercolors depicting depict-ing great ski areas in the United States, includes a painting of Park City and Olympic skier Cindy Nelson. Another series, "Great Ski Towns," features a water-color water-color of Park City. Both series were published in Skiing Magazine. The upcoming Kimball Art Center exhibit will be highlighted high-lighted by recent paintings of the Park City area. "When I do a (ski) race I want to go there and be there. I'm excited about the people and the setting. I want a view that will say that place, so it can be felt years later," she said in a recent interview with the Hartford Courant. In recent years Johnson has had sev.n one-person exhibitions at the Grand Central Galleries in New York City. She has also shown at the Greenville County Museum in South Carolina and the Remington Museum of Ogdensburg. Johnson's work is included in the public collections of such institutions as Mobil, General Mills, Snowbird, American Express and Ford Motor Company. Her por trait of Phil Mahre is included in the Skiing Hall of Fame. Her paintings are also in the private collections of such individuals as Nicholas Nicho-las Badami, Richard Bass, Jean Claude Killy, Roger Gimbel, Robert Trent Jones, Robert Mondavi, Roone Ar-ledge Ar-ledge and Curt Goudy. Jerry Fuhriman, a Utah State University graduate and native Utahn, will be displaying bold western landscapes in the Little Gallery. The canyons and deserts of Southern Utah, Arizona and New Mexico are among his favorite places. Fuhriman studied for two years at the University of Illinois on a performing and creative arts fellowship and received his Master's of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota from 1968 to 1971 and then returned to Utah to serve on the Utah State University faculty. He is currently USU's department head for Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. Much of the work that he will display at the Kimball Art Center was also on display at the R.C. Gorman Navajo Gallery, Albuquerque, Albuquer-que, New Mexico. His work has been exhibited in Bertha Eccles' Community Art Center, Cen-ter, the Springville National Art Saloon and Watercolor West in 1979, 1980 and 1981. He has also participated in the Park City Art Festival and the Utah Festival of the Arts. Fuhriman's recent paintings paint-ings represent a major change in his style and technique. The opening reception for Johnson and Fuhriman will be held at the Kimball Art Center Sunday, Feb. 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. The public is invited. These exhibits are being sponsored by Rick Prince and the Stein Eriksen Lodge. Rehearsals begin for Cabaret '83 Park City Cabaret '83 (a.k.a. the Silver Queen Strikes Again) rehearsals started this week under the supervision of Coronado's Wanda Belli, the musical revue, to be presented in the Kimball Art Center's Main Gallery Feb. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m., has gained the support of a number of Park City businesses and individuals. For the past two months, volunteer committees have been working.to organize the event, Ginny Pinder is serving serv-ing as chairman of the Cabaret, with help from Georgene Crosby, Joann Krajeski and Val Chin (sponsorship committee) ; Mary Jane Bird (casting); Karen Coleman (costuming and fashion coordination); Deanna Carpenter (food); and Sydney Reed (publicity).
