Show Park aty News Thursday, February 3, 1983 Page A7 mm IPcplnee IEepgpirtt Hey, man, who ripped off Nan? Park City's rash of car burglaries hit home especially especial-ly hard this week when the Newspaper's hard-working contributing writer, Nan Chalat, became the latest victim. - Chalat was out working on a feature story for the paper the afternoon of Feb. 1 when she left her green Renault LeCar parked at the lot above Ontario Mine at the base of Guardsmen Road. While she was away, someone some-one entered the vehicle and removed a canvas briefcase containing her wallet and other valuables. Also missing miss-ing are some photo negatives and an address book of extreme personal importance impor-tance to Chalat. If anyone has found such items, please return them to the Newspaper News-paper office on Main Street or the lost and found at the Post Office. No questions will be asked and Chalat will be a much happier person. (Happy reporters write better.) bet-ter.) In other items: Local bartenders had their hands full the past week as a few overzealous party animals took things a little too far at a couple of Park City drinking holes. Up at the Rusty Nail at the resort, the evening of Jan. 27 William Davis and Joe Gordon decided to party out of bounds a bit. According to a Rusty Nail employee, the two threw two pitchers of beer into the fireplace and then refused to leave the premises. After Officer Ball of the Park City Police Department showed up and applied some additional verbal ver-bal persuasion, the two did go elsewhere. In a similar rowdy incident at Ryan's on Main Street the same evening, Robert Reynolds Rey-nolds of Silver Springs, Montana reportedly punched a hole in the wall. The establishment's proprietors wanted Reynolds to pay for the damage. He was not persuaded to do so until local law enforcement officials arrived on the scene. There was a rash of car burglaries and vandalisms 9W flSflW If"1.' in the resort parking lots around town the past few days. Sometime between 7 p.m. on Jan. 29 and 3 p.m. the next day someone did a number on a 1982 Subaru hatchback owned by Marjory Leight of Evergreen, Colorado as it was parked in the Snow Country Parking Lot. Vandals kicked in her passenger side front door leaving a large dent. They also bent the rear window wiper out of shape. Total damage was estimated at $300. A few vehicles parked in the Deer Valley lot suffered similar problems as well. A car owned by G.A.Rempfer of Garland, Texas was entered when burglars inserted in-serted a clothes hanger in through the passenger door window and opened the lock. A variety of valuables including in-cluding cash, credit cards and a camera were taken. Total value of the heist was placed at $417. Likewise, Heberite Nick Calas' 1980 Toyota was entered while parked at Deer Valley. Someone apparently used a screw driver to punch out the lock on the passenger's pas-senger's side door. A Minolta 101 camera valued at $250 was taken. New York City resident Wendy Kay experienced a similar run of bad luck. Her locked vehicle was parked by the main lodge at Deer Valley the afternoon of Jan. 30. When she returned, the vehicle had been broken into and a pair of Nordica ski boots valued at $195 were gone. Likewise, at the resort parking lot sometime during the night of Jan. 29 unknown person or persons broke into a rental car Rick Williams of Santa Maria, California had left there. Access was apparently ap-parently gained when someone some-one took a screw driver and pounded in the trunk lock. Among the items taken were a purse containing a small amount of cash, credit cards and various items of jewelry including a $2,000 diamond ring belonging to Williams' wife. . Three vehicles were tampered with during the night of Jan. 26. Newport Beach, California resident, John Allen, had his 1982 Volkswagen burglarized. burglar-ized. Entry was gained through the rear liatchback. Items taken included several cassette tapes, stereo speakers and a $350 Olympus camera. Total value of the heist was placed at nearly $800. Similarly, a 1980 VW Rabbitt owned by Paul Sincock of Torrance, California Calif-ornia was broken into and several items were taken including 45 cassette tapes and a wallet containing cash and valuables. Total value of the goods taken was $295 and $125 worth of damage was done to the vehicle during the break-in. Meanwhile, Lee Kidd of Tyler, Texas had his rented VW Rabbitt in the underground under-ground parking area of Three Kings when someone entered the unlocked vehicle and took a pair of Nordica ski boots valued at $150. The parking lot wasn't the only area at Three Kings with a high rate of criminal activity. Burglars were hard at work inside the units as well. During the late afternoon hours of Jan. 28 burglars entered two different residences resi-dences at Three Kings. Salvatore Lombardi of Laguna Hills, California returned re-turned from dinner to find money missing from his condo. From his pants pocket inside a closet in a bedroom upstairs $250 was removed while an additional $90 from a wallet on a dresser was also gone. Although there were other valuables on the premises (camera, jewelry, etc.) nothing noth-ing else was missing. Lombardi Lom-bardi said that the condo was locked when he left and was still locked when he returned. re-turned. There was no sign of forced entry. Meanwhile, one of Lom-bardi's Lom-bardi's neighbors was experiencing ex-periencing similar ill fortune. for-tune. Someone broke into the Three Kings unit Mrs. R.L. Ray of Tyler, Texas was staying at. The burglars removed several items, including in-cluding a gold chain, an expensive opal and diamond ring and a small amount of cash. As was the case with the Lombardi robbery, there were other valuable items on the premises which were not removed and the door was locked, even though there were no signs of forced entry. Cole Sport, Ltd. reports that sometime during the night of Jan. 26 someone stole a ten-foot banner that was outside the establishment's establish-ment's front door on an overhang. The banner, which was white with red letters and valued at $150, read: "Rentals and Nightly Ski Storage." Finally, it seems that you run the risk of getting your skis ripped off these days even if there's only one of them. So discovered Preston Caves of Manhattan Beach, California the afternoon after-noon of Jan. 29. Caves was at the ski hut at the resort that day and left his Rossignol SM 200 cm skis with Salomon 737 bindings at separate locations in order to discourage dis-courage prospective thieves. All to no avail as it turned out. When Caves went to retrieve his boards at 3:30 that afternoon, one of the skis was missing (but whoever who-ever took it hadn't located the other.) The pair of skis is valued at $450. f Xmm gmmy p- ft T Kitchenette, 410 sq. ft. Prospector Square condo. A bargain at $49,500. :. View unit faces slopes and has ., ample storage.
