( 1230) Lutheran services Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church will celebrate the Christmas season with two special services, the first of which will be a candlelight communion at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve. This service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 121 Park Ave., in Old Town. In addition to congregational carol singing, special music will be provided by a male quintet, vocal and instrumental soloists. The ministers of Shepherd of the Mountains, the congregation, extend a warm welcome to all visitors and residents of Park City to this service and to the social hour which will be held immediately following the service in St. Mary's social hall. The second special service will be a festival communion on Sunday morning, Dec. 26, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be held in the usual place of worship, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 525 Park Ave. Again, all visitors are cordially invited. Come as you are to both services - ski togs, or dressed for the weather. (12 23) Would you like to be a V.I. P.? Big Brothers and Big Sisters are needed to be very important people in the life of boys and girls who need special friends. Big Brothers and Sisters need to be able to spend a few hours a week with their little brothers or sisters. Training and ongoing support and supervision super-vision are provided. Following the recent opening of the Park City Big BrotherBig Sister office, there have been numerous requests for Big Brothers and Sisters. Without adult volun teers, the program will not be able to meet the needs of any of the nearly 250 boys and girls of single parent families living XXatPrPfllor special friend. Ski registration The Park City Police Department is currently registering skis at the Marsac Building Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Registration forms will be kept on file with the department in case of theft. ( tfn ) Avalanche clinic The White Pine Touring Center and the Park City Recreation Department will hold a two-day avalanche clinic on Thursday, Jan. 6 and Sunday, Jan. 9. The first session will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Memorial Building. Slides will be shown and technical aspects of avalanche safety will be covered. The second session, to be held on the mountain, will focus on hazards, rescue and avalanche control. The cost is $15 for both sessions. For more information, call 649-8701 or 649-9461. (16) St. Mary's Christmas schedule St. Mary's Catholic Church will hold masses on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. and midnight. Come early. There is parking behind the church. (1223) St. Luke's Episcopal Church St. Luke's Episcopal Church will begin its Christmas Eve ceremonies at 7 p.m. with carol singing. The service to follow at7:30p.m. Everyone is welcome. (1223) Community Church services Park City Community Church will again hold its traditional service of carols and candlelight on Christmas Eve at 7:30. There will be an additional candlelight service at 11 p.m., which will include communion. Special music will be featured at both services as well as the opportunity for congregational participation in many of the well-known carols. There will be no church school on Sunday, Dec. 26, but there will be a special family worship at 10: 15 a.m. (1223) Toys for Tots Due to citizen request, the Park City Fire Department, in conjunction with the Marine Corps Reserve, will have barrels set up inside the station on Park Avenue for donated Toys for Tots. Toys, if wrapped, should be marked for either boy or girl and also with the age of the child who should receive the toy. Toys can be delivered to the station Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. If you have any questions, phone 649-6942 or 649-6706. (1223) Meetings cancelled If you're one of those people who enjoy going to public meetings (if there are such people), you're in for a dismal week. A number of meetings which were to have been held between now and the New Year have been cancelled. They include: The regular meetings of the Park City Council scheduled for Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. The meeting of the Snyderville Basin Sewer Improvement Improve-ment District scheduled for Dec. 27. The meeting of the Summit County Planning Commission scheduled for Dec. 28. 1229 Landfill hours During the winter months, the Park City landfill site will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The landfill site will be closed Dec. 24-26, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1-2. There will be no change in the schedule for residential refuse collection. However, commercial refuse collection will not take place on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. (1223) Community Clinic The Park City Community Clinic, a nonprofit family planning plan-ning program, will be holding clinics for the month of December. Appointments are available for morning, afternoon after-noon and evening clinics. The services offered include: Physical exams, PAP tests, counseling and education, VD screening, pregnancy testing and contraceptive supplies. Costs for these services are very reasonable. No one will be denied use of the clinic and all services ser-vices are confidential. For information or an appointment, please call 649-5989. The morning class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday, beginning Jan. 11, for six weeks. The evening class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks beginning Jan. 13. Both classes are for beginning to intermediate students and will introduce transparent watercolor techniques. Diane Balaban has received training in California, Utah and New York. She is a member of the Utah Watercolor Society and Park City Artists Association. Tuition for each class is $45 for Kimball Art Center members mem-bers and $47 for nonmembers. (1223) Continuing stained glass Etching and glue chipping, advanced stained glass techniques, will be taught by Dale Nelson at the Kimball Art Center in a seven-week class beginning Thursday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 10 p.m. This class is for students of all ages who have some knowledge of stained glass. (1223) DCE winter schedule The University of Utah's Division of Continuing Education has announced its schedule for winter classes at the Kimball Art Center. The schedule has been expanded slightly over fall quarter offerings. Winter quarter classes include Math 101 (intermediate algebra); Math 105 (college algebra); English 325 (introduction (introduc-tion to Shakespeare); Psychology 101 (introduction to Psychology); English 101 (introduction to expository writing); English 245 (introduction to imaginative writing); Spanish 101 and 102 (first year Spanish); Recreation and Leisure 194 (volunteerism); and Modern Dance 391 (volun-teerism (volun-teerism in the fine arts). In addition to these courses, the Division of Continuing Education can offer courses to interested groups. During fall quarter, for example, a group of educators requested a course geared to the use of the computer in the classroom. This course is currently being held at the Treasure Mountain Middle Mid-dle School. According to Alan Seko, associate programmer for DCE in Park City, virtually any University course can be brought to Park City if a large enough group requests it.
