A young "man starting out in theworld, after he leaves the old home, has no ties to bind him to any particular place. There is somethuig in this condition, too, that is commendable. He is free to look arqilnd, to go" from place to place, to inspect conditions and to investigate the prospects offered by different localities. But this condition should be. temporary- It is every man's duty to do. something for and to be-something in the. world besides running around in it, drifting from place to place with no fixed purpose. Cit-Iftnship Cit-Iftnship has its responsibilities that can not be neglected, or at least that should not be neglected, for the stability of the nation depends upon the stability of its citizenship; upon the stability of the home 'uifders and home owners. - ' - .: . Opened up each Friday at 3 p. m. Pleasant Grove Mercantile Co. W. T Hayes, Pres. and Mgr. Probably it is a calamity that ties a young man-down to an in- , ongenial employment arnid surroundings that gtate upon his sensi bilities,, butxonce having mapped out his life as best he can, his1 first ambition should be to gain for himself a home. Nothing can add more to his self respect or raise himself in his own estimation or that of the world than the fact that he owns the roof that is over his head. And having a decent self respect is about the most corn-lotting corn-lotting thing in all the World. A man who owns his home naturally takes an interest in making it comfortable, and he watches the improvements im-provements in his neighborhood and the progress of his'city or town with a sense of satisfaction that cannot come to. a renter. He discusses dis-cusses with his neighbors the advisability of making improvements, and he looks upon the city in which he lives with a sort of proprietary interest that makes htm feel that -he is a man of affairs. And he is that.; . - 7 - From a financial standpoint, owning one's home is profitable. If a man owns and lives in a $1200 home, the interest on his money at 7 per cent would equal $7 a month ; on a $2400 home it would equal $14 a month, and he could not find anywhere in the city a house as'good that he could live in at rentals equal to the interest on his money. If he rented a house valued at $1200, he probably would have to pay $14 a month rent, and if he rented a house valued at $2400 he probably prob-ably would have to pay $28 a month. The increase in value of land on a rented place belongs to the owner, and the renter, after ten years, has nothing to show for his expenditures except rent receipts. Hut laying aside the financial benefits accruing to the home owner, own-er, there are larger reasons why everybody should own his own home. The sentiments connected with home are the mot sacred that a family can have. There is more satisfaction than con be expressed in words in the knowledge that home is home; the roof over your; head is your own, and the fireside w ith its cheery atmosphere is ! viiu'thijigjajigible uxonwjij luck or death overtake the head of the house. 1 here is theretore hardly any sacrifice that a man or woman cannot make to become the possessor of a home. And if it is a struggle to get that homeV.it will be more appreciated. appre-ciated. When a mall and woman have workcj hard toj;et a home, they will stay there. The man won't spend the, nights at the clubs, ajiHthcjtt-onianviir find greater. joy in keeping her house in order than in an afternoon ofwjiist. The home is the cente"rof interest with those who have worked to get it, and the well-ordered home is the basis of our national life- Nothing can supplant it Although the church and the school have large and important parts to play, they cannot take the place of the homeand they do not, and never have tried to. The man' who buys now has the advantage of the next genera tion, who will have to pay more for the same ground, or be compelled g- farther from the center of the city.
