Show Gayle Judd to head Health Foundation Mrs Gayle Judd, Pleasant Grove, has served as a member of the Central Utah Health Foundation for the past two years and was elected vicechairofthat organization nt a recent board meeting. Gayle is expected ex-pected to serve six months until un-til January, 1995, when new elections will be held. She is filling a vacated position posi-tion on the 18-member board. The Foundation's mission is to help Utah County residents in medical med-ical need by developing charitable support for Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, American Fork Hospital, and Orem Community Hospital and other nonprofithealth care projects. The Foundation was established as a nonprofit organization organi-zation in Utah during 1984. Gayle states that the foundation has initiated a planned giving pro gram where donors are given strong tax-saving incentive through cluu itable giving. Many people ni e unaware un-aware ol'the significant tax savings available to planned gill donors. "It is well worth looking into even for middle income people," sin-said. sin-said. The Foundation holds many fund-raisers throughout the year and receives revenues from private foundations, corporations, physicians, physi-cians, employees, and private gifts to carry out its mission. One such fund-raiser is "Celebration "Cele-bration of Thanks" planned for the first week in November of 1994, in UVRMC's Clark Auditorium. Local artists donate their works which are auctioned during the evening's festivities which includes a gour-mt gour-mt t buffet. Tickets are available at $12 each, according to Gayle. Gayle also serves as a member of the American Fork Hospital Board of Trustees and as a member of Utah County Health Board. She is a consultant to Utah State PTA Health Commission. Sleep disorder hotline open Saturday, Aug. 13 Do you have trouble sleeping through the night? Can sleep disorders be caused by health problems? How can you successfully treat sleep disorders? The answer to these and other questions and concerns is just a phone call away. Sleep disorders will be the topic of August's Health Hotline. The hotline will be offered Saturday, Aug. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The toll-free number, 1-800-925-8177, can be called from anywhere in the intermountain region. All calls are confidential. The health hotline is a free community service provided by the Deseret News and Intermountain Health Care Hospitals. Smoking cessation program offered by Cancer Society The Utah County Division of Substance Abuse is offering a smoking smok-ing cessation program developed by the American Cancer Society, called "Fresh Start." The program is free of charge to the public and all smokers are invited to participate. The "Fresh Start" program consists con-sists of six one-hour sessions held during a six-week period. Ten to 15 people will form each quit-smoking group. The first session starts Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Utah County Administration Building, 100 East Center, Provo, said Pat Tucker, the Tobaccft Free Coor dinatofand Fa' cilitator of the program. Tucker said the program is designed de-signed tohelp the smoker quitsmok- ing in a six week period. It emphasizes empha-sizes that quitting smoking is a three-part process: preparing to quit, quitting, and staying quit. "This program provides an excellent ex-cellent opportunity for smokers to meet in a small group with others who share the same concern,"Tuck-er concern,"Tuck-er said. "It can offer support and encouragement. "We are here to help people who want to quit smoking," he said. If a person feels uncomfortable in a group situation, the Division of Substance Abuse has several self-help self-help programs available, he noted.
