Show SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, May 22, 2008 Comments Huts off to Editor: I Musical vibes from the Mapleton City Center last Thursday evening were like three phase 220 volts of smooth running electric elec-tric motors with some neat sparks and one or two clanks of machinery. Everyone Ev-eryone should have been there to hear a fine choir sing excellent literature that was well prepared and performed. The choral cho-ral sound was electrifying. We had a prayer too. Yes! Mapleton City you have a jewel. Build a home for them and others. Keep them there. What an opportunity op-portunity you have to build on. I hope you support them. As the choir took the "stage" you knew they had something to share with us. They were so positive-they positive-they looked like they had that something to share. That is so important. And they did. Their director Mr. Mendenhall and accompanist accom-panist Mr. Blackburn had Springville Herald 269 E. 400 South Springville, UT 84663 An edition of The Daily Herald a Lee Enterprises, Inc. Many, many times we hear the mechanics of music mu-sic but not the artistic side, and such was not the case this evening. The music was all memorized. memo-rized. They music was all fine literature worthy of festival performance. The large repertoire of challenging chal-lenging literature that is all memorized deserves much credit. Now let me be a bit critical. criti-cal. The mens' ensemble needs to tune chords. Some chords you sang tended to wrench my jaws. You lost the tall sound in places. Keep that round sound. That is so important. Ladies, your song with its melodic lines was incredibly in-credibly beautiful, BUT the words could not be understood. under-stood. How do you fix this? Articulate the consonants. Ain'a That Good News was so fun. How could such a wonderful sound and expression come from so many statues. Move! Homeward Bound -Basses, yip! It should quickly be retired to the South County landfill! Please, city officials, let's keep our time-tested, well-executed, well-executed, unique Art City logo. Thank you. Most of those 450 young people have worked very hard to earn their diplomas and scholarships. Their parents, grandparents and citizens are proud of their achievements. For years we have urged graduates and their friends and families to celebrate graduation with quiet dignity. Again, we hope that Wednesday's exercises w&l not degenerate into texting, throwing beach balls, yelling, screaming, blowing horns, playing hand held games, throwing toilet paper rolls and the many other stupid things that otherwise normal human beings resort to. It is NOT a time for dancing and gyrating across the stage to receive your diploma! It is not a time to wear stupid things underneath your cap and gown! What happened to getting dressed up for this most important im-portant occasion? One of the special events in one's life. Not to mention the audience. What happened to cause those who attend to come in their shorts, Levis, flip-flops and whatever? What has happened to society? Is nothing special, important im-portant or in good taste any more? What happened to respect for the occasion, to politeness and dignity? Parents need to remind their graduates that the gowns they will wear symbolize reverence for knowledge and learning - to wear them proudly - and to wear their best dress underneath. We encourage the Springville High School Class of 2008 to make their graduation memorable in a dignified digni-fied way. Dress for the occasion and act like you are the adults that you think you are at this stage of your lives. . Listen to the words that will be spoken and the music that will be presented. Reflect on your years of work to reach this accomplishment. And if you and your friends and family have to act up when your name is read, at least have respect for your : fellow classmates when it is their turn. If you are yelling and blowing horns when someone else's name is read, it ruins the experience for them. Please put forth your best effort at respect and manners man-ners when others go up to accept their diplomas. Make this a time to remember as you celebrate this new beginning and important milestone in your life. Security and Prosperity Partnership has new name Editor: Those involved in the treachery continue to deny that there is any substance to claims that the Security and Prosperity Partnership will lead to a North American Ameri-can Union and cancel national na-tional independence. The more the. world planners and their willing supporters support-ers insist that there's nothing noth-ing to be worried about, the more concerned Americans should become. On March 10th at the meeting of the Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy (ACIEP) at the State Department headquarters in the nation's capital could be heard for two hours a collection of Executive Branch officials and Washington elitists as they discussed their plans to expand the clout of the SPP and to further their desire de-sire to have the three North American nations "integrate" "inte-grate" with the European Union. One of the speakers announced an-nounced boldly that the "SPP builds on NAFTA," and another cautioned that no one should call what I i i they are doing "NAFTA Plus" because that would give ammunition to opponents. oppo-nents. Much of the meeting meet-ing focused on the work of the new Transatlantic Economic Eco-nomic council (TEC) whose purpose is i o "harmonize" economic activity in our nation na-tion with wiat is occurring in the European Union. The words "convergence," "integration" "in-tegration" and "harmonization" "harmoniza-tion" were used by virtually all of the 50 attendees. An Assistant Secretary of State noted that the work of the TEC, stimulated in 2007 by President Bush, Germany's Chancellor Angela An-gela Merkel and European Commission President Jose Manual Birrosco, "will continue con-tinue no matter who is in the White House after the fall election." - During this meeting it became be-came obvious that SPP is no longer the name of the orga-nizatioa orga-nizatioa It is not "The North Americaii Leaders' Summit." Sum-mit." Could the name change be the result of the attention given to the SPP by the New American magazine?
