Show 6 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, May 8, 2008 Springville Senior Center News (J .Iws i 1 Ll L Molly Hanks, daughter of Robert and Corinne Memmott, received her Young Womanhood Recognition Award in the Springville Hobble Creek 15th Ward, Hobble Creek Stake. Molly's projects include singing in General Conference, performing in a high school play, representing members of her class by serving on the student council, caring for the elderly and children, running to improve fitness and playing the violin with the Springville High School Chamber Orchestra. Jason Rawle, son of James and Patricia Rawle of Springville, has returned home after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hong Kong, China. He will speak in church on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. at 550 N. 235 East Springville. Kelly Bird, son of Kerry and Karen Bird, received his Eagle Scout Award May 7, 2008. For his service project, he helped the teachers at Brookside Elementary move all of their materials into the new school. The Red Hat Luncheon Group at the Springville Senior Citizen Center will meet on May 19th at Mc-Graths Mc-Graths Fish House. Car-pools Car-pools are available. Please call the center if you are interested in taking tak-ing a AARP driver safety course to reduce your insurance in-surance rates. There will be a class scheduled if there is enough interest. There will be a Mother's Moth-er's Day Tea on May 12th. Bring your daughters daugh-ters and granddaughters for a wonderful afternoon including a presentation called Grandma's Suitcase by Cora Sawyer. A trip is planned for Ephraim's Scandana-vian Scandana-vian Festival on May 24th. Tours to St. George Tuacahn's Theater and Branson's Christmas magic mag-ic are also available. ' , . f - r : ' ! - ; The Springville Senior Center enjoyed a great trip to Brigham City to visit the Railroad Depot Museum, Fine Arts Center and the Museum Gallery. Pictured at the Museum of Puppetry are Irmina Eden, Lorene Bolen and NannaLee Pace. World War Two Veteran Keith Davis was invited to the Holocaust Memorial Commemoration Thursday, May 1, at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda in Salt lake City. It was sponsored by the United Jewish Federation of Utah. Governor John Huntsman, Jr. gave the proclamation and Rabbi Benny Zippel introducted the survivors, witnesses and veterans of the Holocaust present. Davis was at the first Nazi Concentration camp liberated on the Western Front in WW II. At this memorial, he met Abe Katz, a survivor. Both men were 19 years of age at the time and both were in the same agea of Buchenwald and Ohrdruff concentration camps and could have crossed paths at this time. Katz stillhas his tattooed number on his arm. Guest speaker was Dr. Ron Smelser, professor, Universiy of Utah. Shown above are veteran Keith Davis and Rabbi Benny Zippel.
