' V 'if, The Springville High School PTSA club meets during their lunch hour the first Wednesday of each month to share in a service project. Pictured are students holding some of the completed procedure dolls to be donated to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. These dolls are used to educate and comfort children that have scheduled surgeries. This project was headed by Emily Halvorson who sewed the dolls and the hospital gowns in which to dress them. During their lunch time activity the PTSA club helped stuff the dolls so they would be finished and ready to donate. Way to go PTSA! In the second year of the Energy Solutions Foundation Founda-tion Scholarship Program, an impressive 580 applications applica-tions from 120 high schools across Utah were received. Several hundred applications applica-tions were also received, from students in Georgia, Idaho, Ohio, South Carolina, Caro-lina, Tennessee, and Washington. Wash-ington. Springville High School student Corinne. Mortensen was one of the recipients. Scholarship recipients were chosen by a prestigious presti-gious selection committee with representatives from all states participating in the program. Selection committee members include in-clude professionals in science, sci-ence, math, engineering1 and from academia. They evaluate each application for academic achievement, ' community involvement ; and career goals. , Students selected each receive a $2,000 scholarship scholar-ship to pursue a bachelor's degree in math, science or engineering. Students can : choose what school they at-! at-! tend, as long as they plan to seek a degree in biochemistry, biochem-istry, chemistry, ecology, engineering, geology, geophysics, geo-physics, mathematics, me-i me-i teorology or physics The scholarship is offered of-fered to one 10th grade 'i student from each of Utah's 1 145 high schools. The schol- arship recipient from each school is then eligible for a I Distinguished Award scholarship schol-arship for an additional $2,500, $5,000 or $25,000 and a laptop computer upon J entering college, i Utah's scholarship recipients re-cipients will be honored at a banquet in May in Salt Lake City, Utah. The keynote speaker for the banquet will be Richard Brown, Dean of the College of Engineering at the University Uni-versity of Utah. The three Distinguished Award recipients re-cipients will be announced at this banquet The goal of the scholarship scholar-ship program is to help create the next generation of mathematicians, scientists sci-entists and engineers for America's future. ', Mini Cheer Clinic at SHS Sign ups for the Mini Cheer Clinic will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 30, and Thursday, May 1, from 5 to 7 p.m in the Springville High School Cafeteria. This is for anyone lages 3 yearss old to 9th grade. The clinic days are June 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 and a performance on June 11 at 6 p.m. on the High School football field. Anyone Any-one participating in the clinic is invited to ride in the Art City Days parade on June 14 at 10 a.m. The cost for the clinic is $25, which includes instruction, ; a T-shirt and riding in the parade. Anyone that will be in the 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grade next year, and would like to cheer for the boys football foot-ball teams, may sign up on Apr. 30 and May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the high school. : It is highly suggested that you attend the SHS Cheer Clinic to learn the half time dances and sideline cheers. The cost for the older girls is $35.
