It's a break in the middle of the day where you get to talk with friends, work on assignments, as-signments, and eat food. Suspicions have recently come up where students are questioning their own food's reality. Some students are saying that their meat is actually a veggie burger, and their fruits and vegetables are imported. I was starting to get concerned about what I was hearing, so I contact' ed Bill Vest, a Child Nutrition Nu-trition Supervisor for the Nebo School District and asked him a few questions. ques-tions. He replied: "We do not serve veggie burgers on our menus. We serve 100 ground beef in our schools. One of the practices prac-tices that we have adopted ad-opted is to provide each student a whole wheat hamburger bun to offer a healthier hamburger. We have made other changes that have been popular with students throughout the district. Youth Council Continued from page 13 Foundation by participating participat-ing in the Walk-A-Thon and staffing the Partyland booths. They help diabetic children celebrate a holiday holi-day many of them cannot normally participate in by supporting the Sweet Kids Carnival at the Utah Valley Val-ley Medical Center each Halloween. You may have also seen them on Main Street working as crossing cross-ing guards on Halloween. These are just a few of the activities the council participates par-ticipates in each year. , The Springville Youth City Council leader is Keri Gordon, assisted by Dana Moss. Without these women, the Youth Council would not have had the opportunities, op-portunities, and made the difference in the community commu-nity that it has achieved in the past. However, the youth are also leaders within the council and learn newskills by organizing many activities activi-ties themselves. Participating Participat-ing in the council does require re-quire responsibility and hard work, but it's easy to forget that it's service when it's so much fun. By working together, the kids create lasting friendships and learn more about their community by serving it. kmch- real m hot? We serve 14,500 lunches lunch-es per day. With those lunches students can enjoy en-joy a refreshing choice, of milk. We feature regular regu-lar milk, strawberry and chocolate. Fresh fruits and vegetables such as bananas, apples, broccoli, broc-coli, cauliflower, carrots and grape tomatoes are offered to our students. This has been a "hit" with the students and faculty. Most of our secondary schools at Nebo School District offer salads and delicious soup. Other popular pop-ular items include: Italian Ital-ian Dunkers with mari-nara mari-nara sauce, Country beef strips with mashed potatoes pota-toes and gravy served with a hot vegetable and tasty roll. We used to serve desserts every day but this year we are serving serv-ing dessert once a week. The healthier dessert includes Creamies, fruit snacks, freshly sliced apples ap-ples with caramel dip and a special occasion cookie.
