Mapleton Elementary teachers jazz up students with contest Mapleton Elementary to "Jazz" their students up School's faculty is working about the upcoming Utah Sage Creek to hold science fair After three months of preparing, the Sage Creek Science Fair finally arrived on Monday, Jan. 28th, with over 160 participants from grades 4-6! The projects proj-ects were fascinating and ranged from bio-diesel to video games, homing pigeons pi-geons to mummies! While students waited for the judges, they acted as judges judg-es for one each other. After lunch, the rest of the classes in the school had a chance to view the projects of their classmates. Many pictures were taken! Students presented pre-sented their projects to the student body and staff for about two hours. When the ending bell rang everyone every-one left with ideas fresh on their minds of things they wanted to do for next year's project. Thanks to 4th grade teacher, Sheila Robbins, for promoting and overseeing the science fair and to all of the teachers teach-ers who encouraged their students to participate. Schools across the state participate and the 12 schools whose students stu-dents read the most minutes min-utes will win an assembly with a Utah Jazz player. Mapleton Elementary was very close to being in the top 12 las year despite starting later than other schools. Christy Nemelka from Mapleton PTA is heading up the event. Students Stu-dents were treated to a special DVD put together by Ryan Kay, Mapleton kindergarten teacher. Students Stu-dents loved seeing their teachers and Principal Julie Ju-lie Warren, share their favorite fa-vorite books and photos of all the teachers having fun with the Jazz memorabilia in the school.
