The books most of the teachers are reading this year include "Tangerine," "Tanger-ine," "City of Ember," and "Freak the Mighty." Some of the English teacher's favorite fa-vorite books are "Tangerine," "Tanger-ine," "To Kill a Mockingbird," Mocking-bird," "Stargirl," "Emma," "Peace Like a River," and "Tom Sawyer." "Barefoot Heart" and "Day of Tears" are great books. We encourage en-courage everyone to read them and get involved in the city-wide program. Guilty or innocent: Students decide as part of mock trial Delon Lier SJHS STAFF WRITER Springville Jr. High School competes in many extracurricular activities, activi-ties, and one of them is the mock trial. Mock trial is a team of six or more students who get a fake court case from the state and they make up an argument argu-ment for both sides. Then you compete against others schools in a court setting as if it was a real case. Mock trial is extremely fun and sign ups are now in Mrs. Rice's room, for all Springville junior high students. Main Springville, UT 4- Counselors teach lessons to CTE intro classes Amanda Groneman ; SJHS STAFF WRITER Five times throughout the year the counselors go into the CTE intro classes at Springville Jr. High School. These classes are for seventh graders to teach them Career Development Devel-opment lessons. The state decides what these lessons will be. The lessons help kids with a number of different things like learning more about themselves and making good choices. The counselors focus on connecting con-necting to the careers the students are interested in. The students also learn don't need to have background back-ground knowledge to be on the team, for the team helps every one achieve the level of excellence you need. Also, we need good actors ac-tors to play the parts of the witnesses. Mock trial is a great academic activity activ-ity and I personally encourage en-courage you to sign up. The counselors counsel-ors want students to know The Carnegie Library Building, built in 1920. is home to the local Daughters of Utah Pioneers' Museum and the Springville Historical Society. :i DUP Museum now open on Friday afternoons The Springville Daughters Daugh-ters of Utah Pioneers' Museum Mu-seum will now be open to the public on Friday afternoons after-noons from l to 4 p.m., as well as Wednesdays and Saturdays during the same time block. The change from Tuesday Tues-day to Friday was discussed dis-cussed and decided upon by the Company Board last fall. The Provo DUP Museum has experienced an increase in museum guests after making a similar simi-lar change last year, and Springville hopes to accommodate ac-commodate more guests in this way also. The museum is located at 175 N., Main in Springville. The Springville DUP Museum Mu-seum not only houses artifacts arti-facts from the pioneer era, but contains files of pioneer histories and photographs, family and local histories, Let the Sunshine in! We are grateful for the counselors and these lessons they are teaching the students. a collection of books and volumes published by the International DUP and other oth-er valuable resources.
