Show 18 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, July 19, 2007 6 Bliss Robertson Packard Bliss Robertson Packard, Pack-ard, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather died July 15, 2007. He was the youngest child in his family of five, born to Jacob Asa Packard and Eliza Robertson Robert-son Packard. He was born on the Packard farm just two miles west of Spring-ville, Spring-ville, Utah, on January 14, 1917. His mother died during dur-ing the influenza pandemic in 1919 when Bliss was just two years old. He was reared by his loving father, his oldest sister, Alice; and : older brother, Grant. Bliss graduated from high school in 1935. He worked on the farm with his family for some time. Then he met and married Donna Fran-com Fran-com from Payson, Utah. He often said this was the best decision he ever made. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December De-cember 7, 1938. Bliss joined the National Nation-al Guard, and then later served in the Air Force during dur-ing World War II. He was Bishop of the 3rd Ward from 1954-1960. During this time he was engaged in farming and transporting , milk from the farmers to ; Meadow Gold Dairy in Salt Lake City until 1958. He ; then became Postmaster in I Springville. While serving in that position he was elected elect-ed president of the -Utah ' Postmasters Association , for the year 1974. During this time he visited every I post office in Utah, taking -,' pictures of each post office ' and postmaster. He was Kiwanis Presi-; Presi-; dent for one year, then he and Donna were called on ; a mission to England to ! direct the London Temple ', Visitors Center from 1979-' 1979-' 1981. When they returned ' from England, they start-; start-; ed spending their winters ; in Mesa, Arizona, to be near most of their family and to enjoy the warmer Call me todavab All o. Home. Bliss and Donna served nine years as volunteers volun-teers in the Mesa Lutheran Hospital two days a week, loving the experiences and new friendships. Bliss and Donna have six wonderful children, who have brought them much joy and happiness. Bliss always al-ways said they had a ball team and a cheerleader - one girl and five boys: Diane (Roy, deceased) Edwards, Ed-wards, Dennis (Ruth Tip-petts) Tip-petts) Packard, Bruce ( Jody Powell) Packard, Blair (Cindy (Cin-dy Oakley) Packard, Richard Rich-ard (Jenny Guthrie) Packard, Pack-ard, Kent (Janet Bensen) Packard. Currently there are 38 grandchildren, and by August there will be 80 great-grandchildren. LaVar was born on October 7, 1929 in Logan, Lo-gan, Utah to Wray Nelson Nel-son and Alta Davis. He spent his early years fishing fish-ing and playing along the little Logan River. At the age of 12 he moved with his family to Brigham City and then out our full line-UD. Melviii Harold Webb Melvin Harold Webb, age 82, of Springville, Utah, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007 in Provo. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family at the time of his passing. Harold was born October Octo-ber 14, 1925 in Cedar City to Robert Glenn and Jetta Heki Webb. He was oldest of four children. He lived most of his life in Springville. Spring-ville. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Ma-rie Bennett, in February of 1944. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple in 1952. Together they raised six children, one son and five daughters. daugh-ters. Harold was a veteran of WWII where he served as a radio operator in the Army Air Force in the CBI area. He worked as a machinist ma-chinist for many years and also was a construction worker as well as a long haul driver. He had a love of camping camp-ing and music. He played the guitar from the time he was a child: Singing with his family and especially his wife always gave him great joy. He was an avid reader and was a storehouse store-house of knowledge on many, many subjects. He had a special love of astronomy as-tronomy and would spend hours studying the heavens through his telescope. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He knew the gospel well and served with his wife several times as a stake and ward mis- ? to Springville. In Springs . v ville he spent his teenage years helping in the family fami-ly business and exploring ; the right and left forks of Hobble Creek Canyon Oh, the adventures he had and the stories he would tell. Upon graduation from Springville High School he enlisted in the Army as an engineer. He served his country in Germany from 1948-1952 and returned home to Springville just in time for the flood of '52. He immediately went to work for Ralph Child building, a dike. On one of his trips in the dump truck he gave a ride to a "girl walking home from work. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, Marie Bennett Webb; son, Ronald Webb (Lula) of Henderson, NV; and daughters: Evelyn Marie (Estaban) Ruiz of Gunnison, Marcia (Phillip) Merrell of Mapleton, Carol (Winn) Madsen of Alpine, Kathryn (Rick) Johnson of Woodland, WA; and Laura (Kevin) Coleman of Springville. He was born October 9, 1923 in Parowan to Jesse Frank Lowder and Mary Alice Bentley Lowder. He married mar-ried Irene Shakespeare on January 23, 1943. She preceded him in death in 1990. Glenn then married Ilene Penrod on September Septem-ber 3, 1993 in the Jordan River LDS Temple. She preceded him in death in 2002. Glenn served as a training train-ing Sgt. during World War II, stationed in Texas, Tex-as, Fort Hood. For his service, ser-vice, he was awarded the Bronze leader. He worked as the maintenance main-tenance supervisor at Bryce Canyon National Park where he met the love of his life. He worked in the mines in the west desert. Mining was a great passion of his that he shared with his sons that are still active today. He was a construction supervisor for J.M. Sum-sion Sum-sion and Sons and Strong Company. He was also a member of the operating engineers for 53 years. Glenn was a member mem-ber of the Church of Jesus Je-sus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully faith-fully in many church and temple callings. One of his greatest accomplishments was serving a L.D.S. Mission Mis-sion to Adam-ondi-ahman with his first wife, Irene, preparing for the second coming. He was loved by neigh- todian at Springville High School after working 25 years for the district. In retirement he and Ellen were able to travel and see much of the western United States. He always loved to come home and go up the canyon to see what had changed while he was gone. LaVar loved to camp, fish and hike. He left his mark on many trees across the right and left forks of Hobble Creek canyon. There was hardly a trail he had not hiked or a stream he had not fished in. He loved to take his family camping and fishing fish-ing throughout the state of Utah. LaVar was an ac-. tive member of the LDS church serving in many different callings. His favorite fa-vorite was working with the young men as scoutmaster. scout-master. He was always ready to provide service to those in need. LaVar is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ellen; three children, Rodney (Robin) of Boise, Idaho; Louise Kinross; and Lisa (Steve) Daybell of Springville; Spring-ville; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Sherel DUPLEX IN SPRINGVILLE!
