Show Thursday, May 31, 2007 2 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Comments Thanks to Editor. For those who know Springville High School Girl's Softball Coach Karl Jensen, it came as no surprise sur-prise that he was chosen for Coach of the Year in the state. Karl is known around the community for his great sense of humor, his kindness and his love of the game! He is a man of great honesty, integrity and a friend to all As seniors on the SHS Softball Team this year, and having played for Karl the last ten years of our lives, we have gotten to know him very well. Karl is not only fit for Coach of the Year, he is an example of the perfect dad, and has been a second father figure to many, if not all of the girls on his team. On the field, Coach Jensen Jen-sen wants the best for his athletes, and has led us to many victories. But more importantly, he wants the Springville Herald 269 E. 400 South Springville, UT 84663 An edition of The. Daily Herald a Lee Enterprises, Inc. He cares so much about each girl individually, in-dividually, and asks about what is going pn in our everyday ev-eryday lives. Being on a best-friend basis with all of his girls, he has provided a unique bond to unify our team. He has created a circle of trust with each one of us that has brought us so close together. togeth-er. This trust in our teammates team-mates and coach, as well as Karl's great knowledge of the game and coaching abilities, abil-ities, is what has brought us so far this season. He is very competitive, but cares much more about our well being than winning a softball game. That is what makes our coach so unique and special. Of course he has a love for the game, but when you combine that with a deep love for the girls and supporters of the team, this is what sets him apart from all other coaches. Karl may be one of the most humble people we have ever been associated with. He deserves so much credit for everything he has done for our team and in the community. But any time he is recognized, he always al-ways passes the credit on to someone else he sees fit to deserve it. While sitting in a circle after each game for our Reader encourages city leaders to plan well Editor: I would like the citizens of Springville to take a careful look at the proposed plans for the new City Building Build-ing complex. You may be surprised to note that a new fire station will take the place of our current children's play area on the corner of Center Street and First West. This is really the only Children's Park in the center of town. The plan also does away with all of the other lawn areas ar-eas west of the new city hall and police statioa These are to replaced with parking areas ar-eas bordered by small areas of grass and trees. The park area will all be closer to Main Street, but the quiet area of trees and grass on the west side will all be gone. I have not heard what provision will be made for the lovely children's statues stat-ues with a water area and the historic bell or the playground play-ground equipment. The current plan is for the library to be built where the fire station is now. The parking park-ing area for the proposed library will be south of the building with no access to 1WM 1 lira Call for Details (5626) Delta Financial Group rJ?L post-game talk, Coach Jensen Jen-sen would tell us to turn around and look at the people standing behind us waiting to give us a hug, no matter what the outcome of the game. He would tell us, "Be grateful for the reason you are here today (our parents)." par-ents)." On several occasions after af-ter softball games and tournaments, tour-naments, Karl repeatedly reminded us to thank our families, and especially our parents for their love and support. Although he often passes on credit to other people, we believe it is his turn to be in the spotlight because be-cause he is by far the most deserving of this award. Haying in the State championship cham-pionship game is something we never thought we would get the opportunity to do, but have often dreamed about. Because of Karl, our dreams have become realty- As we turn in our jerseys, having been our final year of high school softball, we want to express our great love and appreciation for everything Coach Jensen has done for us. We head into the game of life with everything he has taught us. We know if we follow his great example, we will accomplish many great things. Congratulations, we love you! Katelyn Anderson Amber Martin the parking lot unless you are driving north on Main Street. To get to that parking lot, you must either go to First East, then to First South and then back up Main. If you are west of city hall, you must go to Second South and then back up to Main Street since First South will be closed to build the new city hall and police station. I would like to hear that plans for the library include replacing and improving our Springville Playhouse theater. Where do you plan to put the theater? There is a great need for improved areas for dressing rooms and storage. It would be unthinkable un-thinkable to eliminate this cultural jewel Please take time to inspect in-spect the Phase 1 and Phase 2 plans that are just outside the library and city building. I agree that much can be done and that some funds are already available, but lets not destroy the park area including the Children's Park to get a new city building. build-ing. ' Afton B. Alleman Springville AN 4 Christensen Sprmmli was always Editor: I was born and raised in Springville eighty years ago. I remember our great 4th of July celebrations and weekly band concerts at the park. To the people of Springville Spring-ville it was part of us, with the beautiful pioneer statues. stat-ues. The pioneers were our beginning. I cannot remember when Springville wasn't known as "the Art City." It became known as that far and wide. I saw that beautiful art museum mu-seum building constructed. By the time you receive this letter, the logo will probably be decided. I think it should stay "The Art City" logo! Progress is great and necessary nec-essary at times, but don't destroy the past as it is also necessary. If everything is changed, you had just as well change Springville's name. Maybe I am just sentimental, senti-mental, but I don't believe so. Joyce Peirce Sayer Springville Logo does not represent Springville Editor: I noticed that the Springville Spring-ville logo changed, and wanted to just let you know what I thought about it. The idea was neat, but I didn't like it for Springville's Spring-ville's logo. It looks like it is off of a Pepsi can. And the idea of the S was all right, it just wasn't very clear. I think our logo should represent repre-sent Springville instead of just some brush strokes. Todd Dixon, 2249 S. Fairway Drive, Spanish Span-ish Fork, was arrested for DUI. Jaren Wade Hansen, 713 E, 810 South, Spanish Fork, was arrested for three outstanding out-standing warrants. There was a two-car accident with no injuries. A red bike was found, and an auto recorder planner was left at the city office. A black, 36-inch TV was taken tak-en from a motor home, and a grey Honda key ring and green car key were found at Ira Allen Park. r it i i Fine addition to the city Every time I travel north on 1-15 and then return again to Springville, I am .delighted at our beautifuland very unique overpass on the north freeway exitentrance to The Art City.'' . , ... . Visually it has to be the nicest in the state and it just keeps getting better. The pleasant earth colors and birds were enhanced when someone fashioned some metal cattails cat-tails and placed them at the foot of the bridge. And now, probably that same someone, has created the familiar "Art City" logo .also in metal, and "Springville City," and attached them to both sides. The whole appearance is a wonderful addition to our city and certainly says something as travelers pass by. We only hope that when they construct the new bridge on 400 South and 1-15 that it will have the same ambiance. ambi-ance. We encourage the city to work closely with UDOT and the construction people to create an equally beautiful structure befitting of this fine community. Maybe it could have an "ART" theme, paint brushes or something that says we are "The Art City" and place for fine art in the state. When traveling through New Mexico between Taos and Santa Fe, you see freeway bridge after freeway bridge decorated in a southwest style with bright colors and Native American' designs. They are captivating. We hope that the state is in line to decorate all new freeway bridge structures. Our state is so diverse and so many themes could be used. And thank you to whoever made the north bridge so nice! Springville Police report Springville police had 244 calls last week with 45 for animal problems.
