Many citizens spoke about this business, why it be allowed in Mapleton, is it safe, will the snakes escape es-cape their housing, will the mice cause a problem and will they be able to get out?. And they had many other concerns. The council listened quietly qui-etly to all of the complaints and issues brought forth by the citizens and said that a meeting had been set up for citizens to meet with Ben Sutherland, the person operating the proposed pro-posed snake facility, to explain to the public just what he will be doing and how. Matt Evans, Mapleton city planner and head of the planning and zoning department, will also be in attendance to discuss the zoning situation connected with this type of operation. opera-tion. Some of the citizens were even concerned about their children should the snakes escape. One called the operation op-eration a "black hole" on Mapleton for this type of operation. In talking with Evans, he said that the planned operation is located in an A2 zone witch allows the raising of exotic animals. However, the planning commission needs to grant a conditional use permit which will allow the city to set up the guidelines for raising the snakes and mice. For the amount of acreage acre-age owned by Sutherland, Evans said that in the A2 zone where he will have his snake operation he can have, by law, up to 12 horses or cows, 48 sheep, 216 chickens, 24 ostriches Band, orchestra program Continued from page 1 and Thursday All Strings, last name A-L, A-L, Monday and Thursday All Strings, M-Z, Tuesday Tues-day and Friday Please note that as this is a pilot program, the schedule sched-ule may change once enrollment en-rollment numbers are finalized, final-ized, or to accommodate needs identified as the program pro-gram gets underway. In other action, Mayor Jim Brady gave a special report concerning water. He said that the system is taking in about 1800 gallons gal-lons per minute from all sources, but if too many people on the system all turn on their sprinkling systems at one time it causes the pressure to decrease, de-crease, so he advises that the city devise some sort ' of system to get people to use the system all during the day and night to keep the pressure up. The system was designed de-signed for 500 13 acre lots and the city is getting to the maximum number of lots the system can handle. This also includes the junior ju-nior high school and the red church which are also on the system along with the new city building. He also noted that there is no storage on the system, sys-tem, and at the present Senior Citizens committee formingin Mapleton Senior Citizen Committee Com-mittee volunteers are needed in Mapleton.
