Show 2 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, April. ,2006 Comments We could dp Editor: A couple of weeks ago my wife and I traveled from Springville to Salt Lake. The radio traffic report indicated the freeway was bumper-to-bumper, except for the car-pool car-pool lane, which was unrestricted. unre-stricted. As we approached the Sandy area, we found the report to be true. The carpool lane was unoccupied, unoc-cupied, while the other .five lanes were crawling. I estimate esti-mate less than one percent of the cars had more than one Do something... anything! Editor: The American citizenry is being taken, like a country yokel at a big city fair, by our Congress the Senators who have been sitting sit-ting on their hands with their heads in the sand. There is no logical reason why, even years ago, the US couldn't have opened the Alaskan National Wildlife Reserve to oil production. Environmentalists are not elected to run this nation. Now we are at the mercy of the oil brokers who are jerking us around like cowering cow-ering dogs on a leash. When will the public say enough! and vote into office those who truly represent the people in the House, and break the stranglehold that the Senate has on this Nation allowing the US to rot from the core outward. Will Durant wrote, "A great civilization is not conquered con-quered from without until it has destroyed itself within." So we ought to vote the bums out and elect the heroes he-roes to save the Nation. The solution proposed pro-posed by the state for the low usage of the carpool lane is to open this lane up to non-carpool non-carpool drivers for a monthly month-ly $50 fee. This is a sad commentary. As gasoline prices approach $3 per gallon, there appears to be no effort on our part to reduce gasoline consumption. consump-tion. It would take very little effort to reduce gasoline trips to the store, lower speeds and limit our summer vacation travel. Islam established six centuries after Christianity Editor: One of the great ironies of modern America is to see black-Americans joining the faith of Islam while an Islamic Islam-ic nation in Africa, the Sudan, Su-dan, continues to enslave black Christians. In the Sudan, Su-dan, Islamic faith, the Koran and Islamic traditions comprise com-prise the justification for continued con-tinued murder or enslavement enslave-ment of black-Christians. How incredibly ironic is it that the founders of the Nation Na-tion of Islam have urged African Americans to renounce re-nounce Christianity as a tool of the oppressors, and "that Elijah Mohammed's son, upon dissolving the American Ameri-can Muslim Mission, urged its members to become orthodox or-thodox Muslims and thus Springville Police report Springville Police cited three female and one male juveniles ju-veniles for possession of alcohol al-cohol by a minor. I realize that Ezra Taft Benson tried to alert the citizens citi-zens of this country in his many books of warning and that they were always ignored. ig-nored. I also realize that if he could not galvanize this people into some meaningful opposition to this conspiracy, ttiere is lit- tie likelihood that I will be any more successful than he was. After all, he was a prophet of the Lord. It we continue to do nothing about this secret combination and allow it to spread throughout through-out the land, our nation will be destroyed. (Ether 822-25) I re- alize that the vast majority of IDS people do not believe that this will ever happea I wouldn't would-n't bet on it. For over 40 years I have watched the indifference of this people regarding their freedom. They are content to do absolutely nothing to save themselves. With the exception excep-tion of a very few men like Art Larson and a handful of others who sound a warning voice almost weekly in this newspaper, the rest of you seem to support this evil combination com-bination with your votes at election time. You can't seem to understand under-stand that your leaders are mostly conspirators of the New World Order. You refuse to inform yourselves except through the media which is mostly under the control of the insiders of the conspiracy. If you haven't already planned to go, do so now, because all citizens are invited to attend the" annual Art Ball on Saturday, Sat-urday, Apr. 29, at the Springville Museum of Art. It is a fun, city party where you get to see people you haven't seen for along time, eat some great food, enjoy the entertainment and took at the Spring Salon art exhibit, which is the reason for having the Art Ball This is the 40th year for the annual Art BalL It is the 82nd year for the Spring Salon! How" many traditions do you know of that have been happening hap-pening for 82 years? Springville has been collecting art since 1903, and for 82 of those years they have been showing art in a big exhibit every spring. In the early years, the Spring or "April Salon" as it was called, was a national art exhibit attracting artists from all over the United States. And each year paintings and sculptures were purchased from that spring show which became a part of the permanent perma-nent collection at the art museum As the years went by, it became very expensive for artists to snip their works around the country, and so the focus of the Spring Salon became be-came an exhibit or the best of Utah artists, which it is today. The 2006 Spring Salon is ready for the public to get a preview pre-view of at the Art Ball Saturday. They have hundreds of entries en-tries each year and take maybe a third of them to hang in the show. The exhibit is juried by professionals, so it is an honor to get your artwork juried in. I was at the museum the other day and saw some of the entries, one, a sculpture, which was very fun, colorful and interesting. I liked it very much and thought it would be good piece to add to the permanent collection because it is so different and would appeal to young children as well as adults. I mentioned the piece to another person who had also seen it. They didn't like it at all And that is why art is so wonderful in our lives. We can all get something different from it, and we can all enjoy what we like, and that is OK. something for everyone to When the-original art museum building was dedicated in 1937 bv LDS Church nresident David O. McKav. he Draised the City of Springville for "fostering things beautiful." He dedicated it as a "temple of contemplation of beauty, and of communion with the infinite for the lovers of art." He praised the idealistic and enterprising spirit of the residents resi-dents of Springville for fostering such a project. President McKav said that Springville sculptor Cyrus E. Dallin was the most distinguished sculptor in the United States, and of t Ml . ja T 1. When Utah Governor Henry H. Blood talked at the first homecoming of the annual national art exhibit here, he said he "hoped to see the art museum made a shrine for lovers of art to come time after time to worship the objects artists have produced and left to us." And all these years later, artists are still producing and blessing our lives here in Springville and Mapleton and for all those who come to visit the Springville Museum or Art. You are invited to attend the Art Ball Saturday and view this year's Spring Salon.
