Red Devils tied for first place in region Affer winning two but of three games this week, the Springville High School Baseball Base-ball Team is tied with Orem for first place with a 4-1 record in Region VII action. The three-game week did not start out welj, though. Taking Tak-ing a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning, in-ning, the Timpview Thunder-birds Thunder-birds went on a hitting barrage bar-rage scoring 6 runs on 7 nits to take the lead 8-4. Springville responded in the bottom naif of the inning with 7 runs of its own to take back the lead 11-8 highlighted by Adam Gray's 3-run double. But Timpview & bats were still hot and scored 4 runs in the 7th inning in-ning to seal thetdeal 12-11. ! Springville dicjn't have much time to sulk since they traveled to Lehi the next day (Tuesday) for their first game against the Pioneers since joining their region. re-gion. The Red Devils jumped out to the early lead when Alec Clements singled home Steve Nelson, and Colby Sanf ord hit a sacrifice fly to score Adam Gray. In the 5th inning, Austin Howell singled home Danny Mecham to give Springville a 30 lead. In the meantime, Senior Pitcher Colby Sanford was pitching brilliantly surrendering surrender-ing just 1 run in 6 innings while striking out 6 batters and lowering low-ering his ERA to 2.91 for the season. However with a 3-1 lead in the 7th inning, Springville brought in Mecham to close out the game. Lehi rallied to tie the game and push it to extrainnings. With one out in the 8th inning, in-ning, Brennen Foster singled and promptly stole 2nd base. He scored on Mark Averett's 4th hit of the game and that was all Springville needed to Bring your kids and yourselves to Cars-Mart for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Having played three straight 1-run games (and winning win-ning two of them), the Red Devils jumped all over Payson pitching on Friday collecting 16 runs on 15 hits and leaving no doubt as to the outcome of this game. They won by mercy mer-cy rule 164. Danny Mecham led the team with 4 hits and 7 , RBIs while Brennen Foster had 3 hits and scored 4 runs. Riley Allred pitched 5 innings in-nings scattering 7 hits and allowing al-lowing 4 runs (all of which were unearned). It was Riley's first victory of the season to go along with the save he had against Payson last time they played. Players of the Week Mark Averett batted .900 (9-f (9-f br-10), scored 5 runs, knocked in 6 runs, walked twice, stole 3 bases, and had 2 sacrifices. Alec Clements batted .583 (7-for-12), scored 4 runs, 1 RBI, 1 double, and two fantastic defensive de-fensive plays to kill Lehi's best scoring threat. Danny Mecham batted .416 (5-for-12), scored 3 runs, 9 RBIs, 1 HR, 2 walks, and earned the victory against Lehi pitching two innings. This year, for an SHS first, the show was divided di-vided into two separate shows. The first show began be-gan promptly at 8:15, and the talent kept coming. The audience enjoyed dancing, singing, piano, martial arts, and various other fantastic performances. perfor-mances. The performances were divided up into three different dif-ferent categories: Dance, Ensemble, and Individual Performance. There were three winners in each category. cate-gory. Taking first place in the dance category, doing a choreographed martial arts routine, was Conrad Bird. This guy has got rxnrxnn n J is 47 some moves. Boy I tell you, I wouldn't mess with this guy. , Second place was the amazing Hawaiian number by none other than Susan and K'ui Curran. And third place was Mickey and the Mousettes, with a hilarious, hilari-ous, yet very entertaining, techno-dance routine. For the ensemble category, catego-ry, taking home the bacon was a percussion combo, which included many of SHS's own talented band members. Second place was a quartet of SHS senior se-nior hotties, the Pinkerton Agents. This rockem sock-em sock-em bunch of dudes delivered deliv-ered one heck of a performance perfor-mance and left the audience audi-ence in a state of shock. For the individual cate-; gory sophomore Devin! Knight wooed us all with; his acoustic guitar and har- monica. Taking home the first place finish, Devin seemed to remind me of an ; early Bob Dylan. Second' place was the piano compo- sition and performance by Devin Bartholomew. And third place was a tie between be-tween Tim McGraw prede-, cessor, Kaleb Kriser, and . our answer to a modern, day Houdini, John Hall. ' All in all, the show was amazing and full of sur-, prises.
