Show SPRINGVILLE HERALD Thursday, February 17, 2005 Jr. High spelling bee winners Springville Jr. High foods teacher! 12 Imp! - The Springville Jr. High School Spelling Bee took place Wednesday, Feb. 9. All 8th graders had a chance to participate with in their English Classroom with finalists moving on the school-wide competition. Congratulations Congrat-ulations to all the final round participants and the winners! Participants were, from left to right front: Shaylynn Perkins, Kacy Shurian, Ariel Peterson, Makenzie Croghan, Tim Gervais, Keith Brown, Logan Mill-sap-Brown and Jesus Bedolla. Not pictured are Diana James and Jessica Watts. Breanne Nielsen JR. HIGH STAFF WRITER Miss Weight is a Foods teacher at Springville Jr. High School. She loves teaching foods because it is a life skill that everyone uses. She received a Sterling Scholar Award in high school, and won a scholarship scholar-ship that included a prize of a Kitchen Aid. She graduated graduat-ed with honors from Brigham Young University in Home Economics Education. Educa-tion. I asked her about the students stu-dents she teaches, "The students stu-dents at Springville Jr. High are so wonderful! Their enthusiasm for life amazes me. I have been very privileged to teach many students who are so kind and thoughtful to me and to fellow students." Miss Weight also loves to travel. " I have been to Scotland and England twice and am planning a trip to Ireland this summer. I have spent a week in Finland (visiting my best friend who was a foreign exchange ex-change student) where I went berry picking and ate reindeer! I have traveled to P.E.I (Prince Edward Island) Is-land) and stayed in a seaside sea-side cottage and visited Anne of Green Gable's house. I think what I love most about traveling is seeing see-ing the world and it's amazing amaz-ing landscapes and then returning re-turning home and appreciating appreci-ating it more," she said. Her love for teaching and endless energy and enthusiasm enthusi-asm has brought an example to the children she has taught for the last 18 years. Among her accomplishments, accomplish-ments, sne has served as a mentor to writers, and a member of the gifted and talented tal-ented committee. She has kept current in her teaching by attending workshops, seminars and conferences. She has received four separate sepa-rate nominations for "Who's Who in America." She also received the "Distinguished Alumni Award" from Springville High School at her 20th year class reunion. Rosenlof maintains a set of high values and ethics both in her personal life as well as in her professional one. She sets and expects high standards stan-dards from her students. She models self discipline with a strong work ethic. She values and displays loyalty, a real "Team Player" who is modest about her talents, tal-ents, skills and accomplishments. Samantha Krehbiel, and Sarah Benson JR. HIGH STAFF WRITERS A class at the Springville Junior High School called Service Learning is earning money for an orphanage in Ghana. To earn this money, they are selling hand-made bracelets from Ghana. They are selling them all during the month of February. The prices range is from $2-5. The service learning teacher, Mrs. Crandall, said, "We are really excited for this project... this is our best project yet." Another project service learning is working on is Random Acts of Kindness week. In March, R.A.K.S week will take place as well as a dance to donate toys for the Women's shelter. Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success suc-cess when they gave up. Thursday, Feb. 10, marked the premiere of Art City Elementary's first annual Moms and Munchies reading event The halls were alive with the sound of reading as students and their moms spent time sharing favorite books and munching on tasty treats. Sponsored by the PTA, Moms and Munchies was established in an effort to promote literacy and encourage parent-child connections. |
