To find the meaning behind be-hind the hours spent in the classroom, the school has created three DRSLS, or ideals, for all graduates of Springville High. The DRSLS are research-based and student-driven, as well as being reflective of the school's beliefs be-liefs and mission. "It is the responsibility and goal of all students, staff, parents and partners of the Springville High School Community that every SHS graduate will be: . "An Effective and Confident Confi-dent Communicator, a Responsible Re-sponsible and Ethical Citizen, and an Inquisitive and Resourceful Re-sourceful Thinker.'' Imagine a leader of the school, continuing to rouse crowds and raise funds in college, until finally becoming becom-ing a man able to use verbal and written forms of expression expres-sion to convey his ideas and plans. These are the leaders, men who allow others to follow fol-low on the strength of their ideas. These are the communicators. commu-nicators. Picture a mother raising three kids; she drives them to school and piano lessons, but also finds time to vote in any elections in which she can take an active role. She's educated ed-ucated and intelligent, able to make choices based on experiences expe-riences and logic. She's kind and caring, exactly the person per-son to make informed, proactive decisions. Envision a man, questioning question-ing the status quo m an effort ef-fort to change these things for the better, creating a world built half on logic and half on people, determined to find the best answer to any problem, no matter how insignificant. in-significant. These are the movers of society, the creators, cre-ators, the people to whom dedicated citizens turn for a better answer, a better way. These are the thinkers. All of these learned traits can exist in any student, and parents, guardians and teachers can help this process by allowing students to achieve, reach beyond themselves and find a higher place on which to rest dreams. Foreign languages strong at SHS Hola, bonjour, guten tag-Spanish, tag-Spanish, French and German. Ger-man. These are the foreign languages offered at Springville High School. To attract good fortune, spend a new penny on an old friend, share an old pleasure with a new friend and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name on the wings of a dragon. Nothing is ever lost by courtesy. It is the cheapest of pleasures, costs nothing and conveys much. - Erastus Wiman Shelby Smith SHS STAFF WRITER Springville High School's intern program is still thriving. thriv-ing.
