K ' . t Kim Clark SHS STAFF WRITER Are you worried about your ACT score? If so, then the ACT prep class offered at Springville High School is the Klace for you. The two-day, four hour-a-day, class will elp prepare you for your ACT. The ACT is a standardized test covering four different areas - English, mathematics, reading and science reasoning. reason-ing. The test takes four hours, and many colleges consider ACT scores when accepting students and awarding scholarships. schol-arships. The class runs for two Saturdays. On the first day, two hours are spent with an SHS English teacher, Mrs. Burr. She goes over important strategies for taking the English portion of the test. After Mrs. Burr is done with the English section, the students then go over math with an SHS math teacher, Mr. Frossard. In the two hours of math, Mr. Frossard does a review of important math concepts from geometry, geome-try, algebra 1 and 2, and trigonometry. After the review, Mr. Frossard has the students do math problems from an actual ACT test from a previous year. After students complete the sample problems, he goes over the test, giving the students an idea about how they would measure up on the actual math portion of the test. ' : Another four hours is spent on a following Saturday,' with Mrs. Burr covering the reading section and Mr. Frossard teaching the science reasoning portion. The SHS ACT prep class costs $50; there are many similar sim-ilar classes offered to students from private institutions for $500-$ 1000. If you are interested in taking the class all you need to do is give $50 to the Springville high school finance, fi-nance, office before the day of the first class. The next classes that will be offered will be for the December and April ACT test dates. The dates of. the class for the December De-cember test are Nov. 20th and Dec. 4th running from 8 a.m. to noon. The dates of the class for the April test are March 12th, and 20th from 8 a.m. to noon. The ACT prep class is a wonderful way to raise your ACT score, making it easier to get into the college of your choice and receive helpful scholarships. Swarming sophomores flooded the school attending the sophomore class party on Saturday. These young, vivacious students packed the courtyard devouring everything in sight. Not only was there food and drink, there was also exciting ex-citing music to relax and entice en-tice the already ecstatic crowd. There are just about 525 students in the sophomore sopho-more class, and that means there are 75 more sophomores sopho-mores this year than there were last year. The Sophomore Sopho-more Stomp gave students a chance to get to know each other outside the crowded hallways of SHS. "It's freedom from the stigma of high school society," soci-ety," observed sophomore Richelle Nelson, as some of the students mingled with other students not from their own clicks, showing real Red Devil spirit. "It's classic," Denisha Brown says. The SHS Student Stu-dent Council hopes this defining moment in Springville High School history his-tory will become a new SHS tradition that can only be described de-scribed as the Sophomore Stomp. New Additions to Springville High -1 I - Julie Hatch SHS STAFF WRITER Over the summer Springville High School has undergone many changes. The main building has new bathrooms with automatic flushing toilets - "A very big deal," says Principal Anderson. The locker room now has all new floors, tile, paint and fixtures. There are still some projects under construction, con-struction, including new bathrooms by the football field and the auditorium, which when finished will include new paint, tile, carpet, seats and a new sound and lighting system. Perhaps the biggest project is the construction con-struction of a new 12-classroom building on the east side of the school. The building should be finished by December, and teachers teach-ers and students will hopefully be able to move into their new classrooms by the beginning be-ginning of second semester in January 2005. The business and foreign language classes will share the new building with eight classrooms class-rooms on the top floor and four on the main level. The new addition and renovations will help to accommodate the growing student body and make a great school even better. fl I Members of the winning SHS Girls Tennis Team are shown here.
