Show Jamboree SoQiofis mi for trainon July 18, 2001 - The Springville Herald - Page Seven Five hundred and twenty Scouts along with seventy-five leaders are heading for the National Na-tional Scout Jamboree being held in Fredericksburg, Virginia, July 24-Aug. 2. These Scouts and leaders from the Utah National Parks Council will also be touring tour-ing historic sites in New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. Philadel-phia. On Thursday, July 12, the Scouts met for the first time as Jamboree troops under patrol leaders and other troop leaders. During this 3-day encampment, the Scouts gained an understanding understand-ing of how their Jamboree troop functions and what to expect from the upcoming experience. They also participated in all the competitive games and activities that will be conducted during the Jamboree. Scouts will assemble from all over the council area. Included in the group will be boys and leaders lead-ers from St. George, Vernal, Price and everywhere in between along with Utah County participants. partici-pants. Council Jamboree leader, Mark K. Smith, announced that the Utah National Parks Council will have the second largest contingent of Scouts and Scouters in attendance at the National Jamboree. "We have fifteen troops going to the National Jamboree this year along with over 100 volunteers who will serve on various Jamboree staffs. We are fortunate to have this many Scouts interested in Scout-ing's Scout-ing's premier event." The Jamboree itself will feature fea-ture Scouts from all over the world. During the week long encampment the 35,000 Scouts will drink 43,000 gallons of milk, Dutch Oven Cook-off On August 11, people from all over the valley will plant themselves on the Utah County Historic Courthouse grounds and display their culinary genius in a Dutch Oven Cook-Off hoping to win over $500 in prizes. Everyone Every-one is invited to enter. . " From 10 a.m.' to 2 p.riiw novice and advanced teams will cook to their hearts' content. The event is sanctioned by the International Inter-national Dutch Oven Society (IDOS). Along with certified judges, two celebrity judges, Dickie and Angel Shannon from 94.1 KDOJ, will participate. The winners qualify to compete at the IDOS 2002 World Championships, Champion-ships, which is traditionally held in the Cache Valley area. Everyone who loves to cook Dutch Oven is encouraged to participate . whether they are experts or novices. Entry deadline is July 28. Members of the Chapter and their wives raked, repaired the fence, placed seven small stones on the graves and then replaced the shredded flag on the flag pole. After lunch at the Tucker Rest Stop, they visited the Williams family cemetery just above Tucker. They also visited the Mill Fork Cemetery in Spanish Fork Canyon.
